Gmail Paper Fools Some

Google launched a brand new service yesterday. Or did they? Gmail Paper was pitched as Google's new service for net-phobic individuals who prefer to keep hard copy versions of all their emails. The service offered to print hard copies of any and all emails stored in your Gmail account and deliver them via post to your door, all for free. Here's some blurbs from the promotional page:
"The cost of postage is offset with the help of relevant, targeted, unobtrusive advertisements, which will appear on the back of your Gmail Paper prints in red, bold, 36 pt Helvetica..."

"Gmail Paper is made out of 96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum, and thus, actually helps the environment. For every Gmail Paper we produce, the environment gets incrementally healthier."
The April Fool's gag cleverly played on the current high profile of global warming and environmental issues by promoting a service that was obviously detrimental to both.

When I first read about Gmail Paper from within my Gmail account, I was quite alarmed and it took about 30 seconds for the joke to kick in. But judging by this Google search for "Gmail Paper", a lot of people were fooled into thinking it was a real service.

Cute Google, very cute. In other April Fools news, Matt Cutts' blog may have been hacked.

Q and A: Has someone changed my Gmail password?

Dear Kalena...

Few days back I tried signing-in my Gmail account but I was gettin the error "Enter the correct password" as if someone changed my original password and the worst thing is I even forgot my secondary email's password.

I sent my information (not once) to the Help Center page of Gmail but didnt get any response from them. Can you tell me how long they take? And is there anything else you can suggest ?

Bye
Ali

Kalena's Answer:

Dear Ali

This is not technically a search-related question, but I'll give it a crack. Here are a few things to try first:
  • Try logging in to your Gmail account again and make sure you have caps lock or number lock off.
  • Try a few alternate versions of the password you remember.
  • Look on your hard drive or desk for somewhere you might have recorded your password.
  • Check your computer for spyware and viruses.
  • Try to remember if you gave anyone else your password or if anyone has used your computer recently and may have changed it.
  • If none of this works, research Google's Help Center thoroughly for the answer.
  • If you've already sent an email (or more) to Google, be patient! They have millions of people emailing them every day. You need to give them some time. Good luck!

Q and A: How can I get links to display in my Gmail account?

Dear Kalena...

I want to know if I can have links displayed in the gmail account. I mean where I can use any web links on my gmail account so that I can just click on that link and browse that particular site.

Srikanth

Kalena's Answer:

Dear Srikanth

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question. I'm guessing that you want to know how to activate links within your Gmail account?

Gmail supports the receipt and deliver of HTML emails, so if you receive emails in HTML you should be able to click on the links embedded within them and a browser window should pop up. Same goes for sending HTML email. You should be able to include a URL in the text of your email and have the recipient see it as a link.

If you can't see links within your Gmail account, that is probably more of a problem with your PC set up.

Hope this helps!
