By Mario R. Churchill If you've just started your online business and you're getting increasingly alarmed about the amount of money you're spending on advertising - which unfortunately seems to get you nowhere close to even the first ten pages of search engine results for the primary keywords used in your website - don't you know that there's a cost-efficient way of gaining advertising and building traffic for your site which has a very high success rate? The answer: building a business affiliate program. A business affiliate program is a marketing strategy that allows you to hire as many affiliates interested in joining your program in a commission basis. Think of it as having a company that employs sales agents and paying them only when they sell something. Benefits of a Business Affiliate Program A LARGE ACTIVE WORKFORCE - You may be a small-sized business but designing the right business affiliate program technically allows you to have as large a workforce as possible and the best thing about it is that probably each and every one of them is actively working in marketing your products and services. EARN FIRST, PAY AFTER - A business affiliate program doesn't require you to give your affiliates base pay every month. Yes, of course, you're grateful that they're working so hard but INFINITE POTENTIAL FOR GROWTH - There is no limit to what a business affiliate program could do for your company. It can grow beyond your wildest expectations as long as you continue to deal professionally with your affiliates. Be aware however the growth potential of your business affiliate program is also directly proportional to product or service development. But more about that later on. CONTINUOUS TRAFFIC - The very first thing that having a business affiliate program can contribute to you is traffic. Every time a person clicks on your link in an affiliate website, he or she is immediately directed to your website. Visitors may not buy anything from you in the end but at least you've achieved one important objective and that's to make them aware your business exists! Some companies wouldn't ask even any more than that! How to Make a Business Affiliate Program that Works GREAT PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ARE THE LIFELINE OF A BUSINESS AFFILIATE PROGRAM - Without unique, attractive, beneficial, and useful products and services, there's simply no way for your business affiliate program to succeed. You have to start by giving your affiliates something incredible to sell. A GROWING COMPANY - A business affiliate program can only enjoy long-term success if you can match this with long-term plans as well. Your products and services must evolve in response to the changing needs of your market. If you're satisfied with a constant rate of success that shows no signs of increasing, don't expect your affiliates to feel the same. All affiliates expect and demand for growth, and if they can't see you offering that to them then they'll simply switch to another program. THE RIGHT OBJECTIVE - What do you want your business affiliate program to achieve for you? If it's only attention and interest that you need then you should use a pay-per-lead program. If it's higher sales you're after then you should use a pay-per-sale program. It's that simple. PROVIDE SUPPORT - A good business affiliate program succeeds because of the cooperation between the affiliate merchant - that's you - and its affiliate websites. They help each other obtain mutual success. As the owner of the affiliate program, it's your job to provide as much training - preferably free - and support to your affiliates. There's nothing to lose as well if you invest a few minutes of your time once in a while to check on your affiliates' progress and send them motivational and encouraging emails. PROFESSIONAL - Last but not the least, a good business affiliate program is professional. This can largely be seen on how it deals with its affiliates. It offers contracts that do not violate any laws and protect their mutual interests. A good business affiliate program offers fair and competitive pay to its affiliates. It utilizes a reliable and efficient tracking system to provide sales reports for its affiliates. And there you have it, the benefits of a good business affiliate program and how to make one. Good luck! Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects. you're nonetheless under no obligation to pay them for their effort. This is standard for all business affiliate programs: payment is only made when there's a corresponding action.

By Diana Barnum Even though a lot of people now realize that the word domain refers to the address of a website, some do not understand other words or tech-jargon associated with the term domain. So here is a quick look at two popular terms that are associated with domains, in case you or someone you know could use some help. Domain Forwarding & Masking Domain forwarding helps with the directing of your site link to the address of another website. And domain forwarding is very helpful for websites that may have longer, more complex addresses as well as for advertising purposes; for example, to use a new domain like MarchSale2007(dot)com for directing traffic to a special sales web page. The forwarding process is pretty simple. Begin by registering the new domain name of your choice that's available. Next log into the domain area where you purchased your domain and click on the option to forward this new domain. A space should become available then where you simply insert the URL or domain name of the site where you want your visitors to be directed when they click the link. Domain masking allows you to hide or protect the address of your website while still continuing to allow your prospects and clients to visit your site and access the contents there. Domain masking works in this manner: - Register your domain name first. For example, register the domain name, TinyURL(dot)com or the domain of your choice. Then set up a forward as mentioned above and add masking to it by clicking the masking box in the control area and add masked description meta tag and masked keyword meta tag words to help direct search engines your way when people key in these terms for searches. - Although TinyURL(dot)com will be the visual address for people who click on the link, it will not be the main Internet address of the website because the main address is too long with too many letters to list in print ads, for example, like MyDomainNameIsTooLong(dot)com. Therefore the masked domain address TinyURL(dot)com will be listed in emails, ads and other Note that the main difference between domain forwarding and domain masking is that with domain forwarding, your site visitors will still see the original or actual domain name in their browser after they click the new domain link and get directed to the site. In other words, the new domain link does not hide the long original name. So when people click: TinyURL(dot)com, they are directed to the site, yet once they arrive at the site, the domain that appears in their browsers will read: MyDomainNameIsTooLong(dot)com. Why would you prefer to place a mask over the original address rather than simply forward traffic to the site? In cases like this: Some website addresses are very long, full of coding with numbers and letters that often may or may not make sense like: http://ThisIsYourAffiliateLinkabczyx12379_JohnSmith(dot)com . So to make the link easier to read and to look more professional, an Internet marketer may mask a short domain like http://JohnSmithNews(dot)com for two reasons (1) to hide the fact that it's an affiliate link, causing some to be uneasy and leave the site right away and get in touch with the main seller instead and (2) to make the site appear more professional and memorable with a recognizable name as the address. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that said, well, I'd already have a fortune! However "broken-recordish" it may sound, it is a truthful statement. The fortune REALLY IS in the list. Fact is, if you possess the knowledge of how to grow and profit from opt-in lists, you can pretty much write your own ticket. And, if you'll read the remainder of this article, I'll pass that knowledge right on to ya. It comes down to getting folks to do four things... 1. REQUEST. First things first, you need to convince people to "opt-in" to your list. That is, get them to join your list of their own free will. Usually, this involves giving away a mini-course, report or newsletter from your web site. All you need is.. - An Attention Grabbing Title. (I could have chosen "4 Keys to Successful Email Promotions" for this article, but is that as attention-grabbing as "How to Pull in As Much Profit As Your Wallet Will Hold From Opt-In Lists"?) - A Handful of Bulleted Benefits. (A short list of 4-6 desirable things subscribers will learn if they join your list. Think "what's in it for me?") - An Opt-In Submission Form. (Your autoresponder system will provide this for you.) NOTE: The BEST way to get folks to join is to embed the above mentioned items DIRECTLY in the most prominent place you have your site visitors' attention. Usually this is 3-5 paragraphs into your sales letter or 1/3 of the way into an ezine article. 2. RECEIVE. After visitors to your site have "requested" information by joining your list, it's critical that your emails be delivered successfully to their inbox. With all of the filters in place (among other hazards) this can be quite a chore. One thing you'll want to do for certain is check your SPAM rating to make certain it's in an acceptable range. Again, most of the better autoresponder services offer this feature for you. You can also do things like... - Get your subscribers to "approve" mailings from you. - Authenticate yourself as a legitimate mailer when you receive a "response challenge" from protection services such as Spam Arrest. - Use alternative formats of your email messages such as "downloadable email messages" in PDF format. 3. READ. When your emails successfully arrive at the inboxes of your subscribers, another task awaits - getting them to actually open your message and read it. This is going to depend upon your "subject line". It is paramount that your subject line be intriguing enough to convince your readers to stop what they are doing and take a look inside. One way to get this done is to create a swipe file of email subject lines that have convinced YOU to read the messages and then modify those subject lines for your own use. Ex. I received an email that had the subject line of "This affiliate tip is almost too easy" that caught my attention and forced me to read the associated message. This subject line could easily be used in a variety of different niches... - This dieting tip is almost too easy 4. RESPOND. When you have convinced your subscribers to open your email message and read its contents, the only remaining "task" is to get them to respond. You want them to take action. Click a link. Go somewhere. Ultimately, spend money with you. The only way you'll be able to do this is follow a simple catch phrase I've been teaching for years: "useful, but incomplete". It simply means this: your messages must provide content that is useful to your subscribers (otherwise, they'll unsubscribe faster than you can say "oops"!), but is also "incomplete" in that there is some additional offer that could enhance or maximize that content. Ex. You might write an article that shares "7 Ways to Profit With Autoresponders" to send to your list. That's "useful" information to those who are interested in that particular topic. It's also "incomplete" because they need an autoresponder service to put the information into action. That's your cue to promote your recommended autoresponder service. See how it works? If you want to pad your wallet with profits by using opt-in lists, this is how you do it: Get people to do these four things - Request This is a system that has never failed, will never fail. I've used it. Others have used it. Now, it's your turn to use it. For the first time, ever, Jimmy D. Brown is sharing his simple, yet powerful 6-step system that will show you how to grow your list, provide your readers with the content they crave and start making more money than you ever expected from your list. Then visit http://www.ListProfitSystem.com Labels: Internet Marketing By Trey Thomas If you own, run or maintain an Internet business, you probably need articles to provide you with content for your website. Users are always looking for information and if your site can Articles provide many benefits, but perhaps the most important thing they do is to place your site high in page rankings for search engines. This happens because your articles have keywords in them that are relevant to your site. Therefore, when someone does a search for the information they're looking for, your site is more likely to come up if you use relevant keywords. In addition, articles are a way to link your site to another site or newsletter. Visitors appreciate quality content, and if you have it, you are much more likely to be asked to link your site to many other sites, increasing your exposure. This also increases confidence and trust levels in your company and web site, which drives more customers and traffic to you. If your site has quality articles, it's also likely to get more exposure because visitors to your site will tell their friends and family to visit your site for the information you provide. This drives more traffic to your site and in addition, provides you bigger sales of whatever product you're selling because those who visit your site trust and believe in you. Your products and services will also be much easier to sell when customers know that you are experienced with your particular area of expertise and know what you're talking about. In short, articles are very important to your site and to your business. You need them to keep ahead of the game and in addition, you need to keep providing new ones. One dilemma, though, is that many people don't like writing articles. Most web site owners would rather spend their time on their business. Unless your company is large, you probably don't have the necessary resources to have a pool of writers specific to your company. In addition, plagiarizing or copying other articles is frowned upon as well. Also, this is illegal, and it can definitely get you into trouble. At the very least, it puts you in a bad light and will make your customers question your honesty if they find that plagiarism existing on your site. Therefore, what are your other options? You might not know that you can actually get free articles. These articles exist in the public domain and here, articles are available without fear of breaking copyright law. Public domain articles are given freely to the public for their use. You can do whatever you want with them. You can place them on your site without giving credit to the original author or authors, and although it makes you look very professional (and, in fact, is probably the most ethical thing to do) to name the original author rather than taking credit for it yourself, you Of course, with public domain articles, your competitors will have access to those articles as well. Therefore, readers will probably instantly know that these articles are not yours, since they've seen them in various other places. In this case, simply rewriting them to make them original is a little bit easier than developing an article from scratch, but still provides you with original content. Another bonus of rewriting articles is that you can make sure you optimize them for keywords particular to your site, which the original article or articles probably will not have. In short, even with public domain articles, rewriting them to make them original is the best way to go. It also is a good idea to write your own original content. If you truly cannot write for yourself, you can hire a freelance writer or writers to do that for you for relatively little expense. The investment you make in these articles is worthwhile because you hold copyrights to them and can use them in any way you wish. You'll also be able to optimize them for keywords right from the start. Simply put, if articles build your business, you'll likely not find them as distasteful to write as you might have at the beginning, before they drew traffic your site and therefore made your business more successful because of them. Yet we see the same mistakes being made over and over again by the marketing executives, sales professionals and owners of small businesses. If done properly & correctly, email marketing is a very effective medium to generate new leads, and build regular contact with your customers and prospects. It can easily help you generate new sales and meet your targets. Take care of these top 10 mistakes and you are on your way to new sales! 1. Underestimating current customer list - This is by far the biggest mistake I see. Marketers just disregard their current customer list, and leave money on the table. Even worse, most have no systematic way of capturing their customer's email and contact details in a common list. They are always on the lookout for a fresh list, a competitor's list, or anyone else list, except building and nurturing their own list. A consolidated customer email list can be easily used to market new products to existing customers or to get repeat orders if done regularly and consistently. Existing customers have seen your product and service before, they know you, and are more likely to buy from you again. In a study, it was found that all things being equal, people would do business with those they know already. So why waste your list? 2. No specific target - One big, long message for everyone is no longer smart or effective. Nothing works this fast way. Now the trend is to do personalized, 1 to 1 marketing. If your standard message is for all prospects in all industries, chances are that it does not address anyone needs. It is best to send several small, targeted emails to focus groups, which you can track to see what works in which industry, and who opened which mail. With this powerful arsenal, you can focus your efforts on those chosen few to spend your time upon, and generate sales with a much bigger ROI. 3. Using cheap lists - Using 300,000 emails from a $100 CD is bound to fail. These email addresses are mostly defunct, and most are acquired through snooping and email extraction from forums and websites. Most will not be from your target market anyway. Just sending a blatant marketing message is a sure-fire way to get yourself banned from major Internet Service Providers. Anti-spamming laws are catching fast in most countries, so beware of such tactics. You can either buy a good list of your target group from reputed list brokers, or start compiling your own house list of all past and current prospects, customers, vendors, suppliers, contractors to market to them. 4. No system to measure response - Most marketing departments just continue to send out message after message: No measurement of ROI, no evaluation of efforts, and no mechanism to evaluate the response of past messages. No wonder such efforts hardly bring in any results or prospects. A systematic measurement system is very important. With emails, you can tag each and every link, email account and email sent, so that when it is opened or clicked, you can immediately know who is interested, who is keen to buy, what product, and how eagerly. With a good measurement system in place, you can call those few that spent time with your message, or on your website, and by knowing their browsing behavior, you can customise future messages for them. Market something that they have shown interest on, and you are closer to another sale. 5. No clear goal or strategy - Start with the right goal and marketing strategy. Your first goal should be to establish trust and credibility within your target market. Secondly, get the prospect interested enough in what you are selling, so that they are willing to give you their contact information, and trust you to provide them with more information. Thirdly, your marketing message should be sent out regularly so that the prospect expects it, waits for it, and it shows to them that you are consistent, reliable, and trustworthy. Remember, marketing exists to generate leads, prospects and help Sales and Delivery teams to close the deals, & not for any other purpose. So focus, and strategize on these lines. 6. Marketing folks don't have time to update anyone about their initiatives - Most of the time, the services folks, the receptionist and other employees of the company are not even aware of what marketing is up to. So when a prospect calls the office to talk about the offer made in the email, neither the receptionist has a clue, nor the employee from the service department. None has seen the email, and have no idea who to refer this prospect to. They route the calls from one department to another. Here goes another lost sales... Marketing efforts need to be integrated over the entire organization, and everyone should understand the need and importance of what's going on. 7. Marketing message is inconsistent - Many marketing firms just send out a message, without making sure that it is consistent with the other company collateral. It is not even properly linked to the company's website, and does not incorporate the complete office address, telephone, fax, contact information. Just giving an email address is not sufficient to build trust and prove that yours is a genuine offer. Make sure you provide full contact information from all the various channels, and don't hide it in fine print. Make it big enough to read without squinting. 8. Boring marketing message or Ad copy - A long repetitive message is no way to capture the prospects attention. You can't watch a boring movie even if you paid for the tickets, so who is going to read your unasked for marketing email if you are not even addressing the problem. Most messages spend countless paragraphs talking about what they offer, their products, services, and me, me, me. There's nothing in the message to catch the reader's attention. You need to talk about the problems faced by your target market, their industry, and their issues. Once you establish a bond by acknowledging that you know about their problems, they will be more amenable to your message, and products. 9. Dropping prospects half way - It is a proven fact that a new prospect will take an average of 5-7 different interactions before they build enough trust on you, your company and your products or services before thinking of buying from you. So if you drop prospects after meeting them once or twice, thinking that they are not qualified or do not seem interested, you are losing sales too quickly. Continuing to hand hold them and stay in constant contact will help you in the long run, as you will be familiar to the prospect. People love to do business with people they know, and not strangers. Email is the most cost-effective way to stay in touch. 10. Not interested in educating the prospect - The marketers are so focused on sales, that they do not spend enough time with their prospects to educate them. Remember that if you service a prospect well, they will most likely convert to a paying customer sooner or later. Have patience. Use email to market to them regularly with information, education, free offers etc. until they build enough trust to buy from you. Conclusion: With its lows cost, and effectiveness, email marketing helps to build long term relationships with your target audience. Use it wisely, and ye shall reap its rewards! One of these methods is by way of email marketing. Email marketing is a form of internet marketing that works very well. Email marketing is cost effective and it is a way of being creative and innovative with your audience. Let's take a look at the five steps to making email marketing work for your home-based business. Step one is to cultivate as many names of prospective customers as you can as well as email addresses and from here you can start to build an email list. As time goes on you may be able to gather more information from those who show an interest in your business. As well encourage individuals to become a part of your email list from the website you created especially for Step two is to devise a plan by establishing what goals you have for working from home. What do you wish to accomplish by way of email marketing? In most cases it is to have good communication and rapport with customers and clients but pinpoint for yourself exactly what your goals are. Step three is to decide how often you will send out emails and on what days. Many companies find that email marketing is very effective on a weekly basis. Experiment by sending emails out on different days of the week and at different times of the day and pay attention to the responses you get. For example send an email on Thursday morning or Saturday evening or Tuesday afternoon. You decide the frequency just don't make it too often but don't let too much time elapse between each email to customers either. Step four involves choosing the format as well as what content you will send out to interested parties. An online newsletter is a conventional form of internet marketing that works well but so is other things such as announcements about your at home business, updates during the holidays, coupon promotions and special-offer promotions. Step five is a very easy one- have fun with what you have created. Working at home is an endeavour that should open doors and should bring you much joy. As a form of internet marketing, email marketing should be fun. If you like share drawings and photos of yourself and your family with your subscribers and educate your customers about your home-based business. To learn more visit http://www.steps2victory.com Labels: Home Based Business, Internet Marketing By Gerald Mason If a person visits your website and leaves, chances are that he or she will not come back, especially if there are no compelling reasons to do so. After all, we all behave rather impulsively on the Internet, so much so that we can easily forget where we were 10 web pages ago. But the bottom line is that your visitor may not come back to your website again. If 1,000 visitors visit your website, leave and never come back again, you can imagine the amount of potential revenue lost, simply because they do not come back. You could have converted a fraction of the visitors into your customers. Some may say that creating unique content can keep some of the visitors coming back, but very often, unique content is not the solution. The real, long-term solution lies in converting your visitors into subscribers of your mailing list. Before your visitor leaves your website, you want to convert him or her into your subscriber via a simple opt-in to your mailing list. You do this by asking for your visitor's name and email address through your opt-in form. And if your visitor signs up to be on your mailing list, you can still follow up with him via email. You can get your subscriber to consider your offer, or endorse another offer to him or her. All in all, you want to convert as many visitors into subscribers as possible and obtain the potential revenue you rightfully deserve - the easy, wise way. Another way is to use a virus to attract and keep visitors to your site. Think about how a virus spreads from on person to another. One person gets sick and just by sneezing they can give the virus to many more people. Those people get sick and share their germs with everyone they know and the next thing anybody knows is that there is an epidemic. That is the very concept of viral marketing. The idea is to get everyone to spread your marketing message around because they want to. Now let's look at using an E-book to start your viral marketing campaign. First you create an E-book. a really good one that has links to your website, to your sales page and affiliate links to products and services that you recommend. and you give it to three people. In the book you encourage those three people to give it to their friends and family. Before you know it the E-book is spreading across the Internet like wild fire. Digital information duplicates easily and quickly so before you know it, thousands of people could be reading your free E-book. Make certain that you let people know that they have permission to forward the E-book around the Internet. When you create the E-book, you have the right to give people certain rights. One of those rights could be that you allow them to give the book to other people. Make it clear that this book is free to give away. Website design doesn't usually cost an arm and a leg and if you possess any creative skills, the final total will be much lower. For the average start-up site, costs are often seen between $500 and $1000. Websites also require a hosting company, which could cost about $20 to $30 per month. Those following a tight budget can find less expensive substitutes in all areas of website design, hosting, and maintenance; it just might take a little longer to locate. 2) Offer Up-to-Date Information Since customer service is handled across the Net, it is important to keep all website information up-to-date and easy-to-find. For those who need additional information before making a purchase, it is vital to offer alternative means of contact, such as email addresses, telephone numbers, and store address. Businesses with a direct customer service line are highly attractive to the curious consumer. 3) Consider Search Engine Optimization Once your website is complete, you can optimize it for popular search engines, such as Google and Yahoo. It is quite common for some businesses to fall victim to submission scams trick unsuspecting webmasters in paying a fee for multiple search engine submission, so be careful of what services you use. 4) Request Reciprocal Links Amplify your chances for increased traffic to your site by establishing a reciprocal link relationship with another website. For instance, if you sell fashionable dog outfits, you may seek out dog food companies and pet shops that might find interest in trading links. Some websites quickly climb the ranks of search engines because they possess a high number of reciprocal links. 5) Consider Common Website Traffic Tactics Don't be afraid to explore website boosting tactics, such as cost per click search advertising to attract more visitors to your site. 6) Don't Forget the Little Things In the rush and excitement to launch your business on the Web, don't forget the little details that are so very important. All bricks and mortar websites should display their company mission statement, contact information, map to business, and hours of operation. Labels: Home Based Business, Internet Marketing By Ben Holmes The myth of easy wealth, Lazy Man's wealth, 'An hour a day' wealth, and so forth. This so perfectly matches our vision of what life should be, and because of this, it has the power to suck many people into its vision. Very few marketers are capable of putting together a winning campaign based on telling you the truth - that making money on the Internet is going to take effort, knowledge, money, and time. Who would pay you to tell you how difficult it truly is? People want easy solutions, not someone telling them how likely it will be that they will fail! Some marketers even feed on the 'back-end' of this myth... selling to people who've discovered that it's not quite as easy as they thought - with a new myth: You just haven't learned the 'simple trick' that those rich guys are hiding from you. This new myth feeds not only on the original greed, but on another powerful concept - envy. Most people tend to lose sight of the basics of money. Money is nothing more than a convenient way to trade work. If I'm a farmer, I don't want to trade my hard won grains or vegetables to someone who has sat on a couch all day long while he was out in the field working. He wants to trade his hard work for someone who is equally willing to work hard - perhaps to the carpenter who can fix his barn. Society has also figured out a way for the poet to get his food, even if the farmer is illiterate. This is one of the secondary functions of money, to provide a way to gain the labor of others even if they don't directly benefit from your labor. Now while I'm sure that there are some fancy-pants economists who are now engaged in laughter over my overly simplistic monetary concepts - it's time that someone states the simple truth - there is a meaning for money, and if you don't understand it, how do you expect to master it? Why do people think that they can command the free labor of others? Of course, I perfectly realize the power that such an idea has - it's a very hypnotic idea... "Free" is such a powerful concept, and Internet marketers make the most of it! More power to 'em, I say - if you don't realize what you're spending your money on, then you simply don't value your own labor very highly. Nothing wrong with that - your money is yours to do with what you will... But don't imagine that everyone feels that way. There's nothing you can purchase on the Internet that will instantly transform you into a millionaire. This is a lesson that many people learn only after spending for dream after dream. (The lottery works this way too!) Now, are there smart ways to earn money? Certainly! One of the best concepts that can easily be applied on the Internet is the "work once, paid often" idea. Write an info product, and you'll spend time and effort doing so - but you'll sell the same "work" over and over again. Quite a bit different from getting paid to sell an automobile... after all, if you want to get paid -again-, you have to sell another automobile. But this idea that you must have your own product, or that you must provide services (as an advertiser, for example) to someone else who holds a product, seems to get lost in the shuffle. Keep this concept in mind - if you want to earn money on the Internet - you must have labor to trade for it. Is it the labor of knowledge put into an infoproduct? Or the ability to put together a new service on the net? What- ever it may be - it's not the dreams that many marketers are selling you these days on the Internet. You may never have thought of having your own membership site, but it is a strong customer attractant and is in some ways easier than the typical affiliate sites. Building the customer list is a goal of affiliate marketers. Having a membership site is a great way to get that list built up fast. A list is basically what a membership site is made up of- people who are interested and want to come back again to see what is offered. People can join the site for several different reasons. They may want a newsletter you are offering, they may be happy to get several things they want all in one convenient place, or they may just love the font you use. Whatever the reason they join, the members can be charged a small monthly fee to keep getting access to what you have to offer. This will generally include articles, services available to them, some type of customer service for questions ad problems, and a forum to tie it all together. Meeting your monthly income goals becomes much easier when there is a steady stream of paying members each month. That can be in addition to your affiliate sales, or it can be used in place of them. Some affiliate marketers find that they enjoy building their membership site more than trying to keep several different affiliate sales sites going. A membership site is a brand, and can be marketed more easily than several smaller sites. Some membership sites also use their own affiliate marketing programs to attract new members. A commission or a flat fee is given to members who bring in new paying members. That can also be accomplished by simply waiving part of the membership fee for members that recruit. This costs the site owner nothing and brings in new members at a exponential rate. Using a system such as this, getting large membership numbers can be done more quickly and with less expense. Membership sites are also a safe way to protect against sales slumps. A month with low sales will be cushioned by a steady income of monthly membership fees. And if there is a problem with your smaller sites, such as a loss of search engine rankings or a product that bites the dust, the larger site is there to step in and make up for that loss in income. There are also free membership sites that set up the same basic format, but try to attract more members by not charging fees. The income with those sites is in getting the largest list possible to market to in the hopes of sales. A free membership site may not bring in the membership fees, but it will likely attract more members. Whether you want to charge to enter your own web kingdom or not, having a membership site is a strong marketing technique that can help brand your information and your products. Every panel implemented the metaphor of a deck of cards in both design and text. Bullets in the form of hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs and subheads like "This session provides you with all the aces you need" carried through the unified theme. After spending so much time exploring this piece, I figured the conference sessions would have something to teach me too, and I signed up. Another marketing piece, from CM Communications, Inc. of Boston, landed in my files because of its clever use of a tailoring theme. Headed "Getting the Right Fit," the three-panel brochure used a tape measure to illustrate subheads like "Don't Hem Yourself In," "Look for a Versatile Outfit," "Button Down Costs" and "S, M or L?" Well-executed themes get results in marketing because they reach beyond features and benefits to engage emotions as well as the intellect. In addition, they provide unity between words and graphics and thus become more memorable. Sometimes they involve a creative format too. Cindy Marshall, of Jefferson, South Dakota, used the theme of a police suspect file in a promo piece for Media Concepts, in nearby Sioux City, Iowa. The manila file, complete with a real-looking coffee stain, opens to fingerprints, Polaroid crime-scene items and a profile including "caught guiding unsuspecting clients in specifying advertising goals" and "known to be armed with state-of-the- art equipment." To select an effective theme, stay away from any you've already seen implemented in your industry. Play an old parlor game to spur your imagination: If your product, service or business were a fruit, which one would it be? If it were a song, which one would it be? If it were a communication medium, which one would it be? How about a feature of the landscape, a type of weather, a dessert, a bank transaction? Or, think about some general categories of phenomena that provide rich sources for themes: Nature; Technology; Hobbies; Relationships; Mythology; Popular Culture; Occupations; Common Problems. Sometimes a pun, such as in "A Hire Authority" for an employment firm, supplies an interesting metaphor you can build upon. Once you choose a tentative concept, brainstorm related ideas, such as for "shoot-out": holster; OK Corral; bad guys; sheriff; Wild West; trigger-happy. For maximum effect, a theme should be unexpected, such as "Setting Sail for Internet Profits" and yet sufficiently familiar so that visual elements like anchors and rudders and textual references to "catching the wind" and "calm seas" make instant sense. The theme should always be more concrete, picturable and commonplace than what you're selling. Otherwise you will have created an unnecessary mystery instead of a compelling sales piece. As with any marketing idea, test it out with people similar to your prospects to make sure it provokes a laugh or a nod instead of a "Huh?" In an ideal world you'd be writing all this great content, but we don't live in an ideal world, do we? You may have a day job, other tasks on your website to tend to and maybe even own several websites that all need to be updated with new content on a regular basis. On top of that you'd like to occasionally spend some time with family and friends. If only there was a cost-effective way to get fresh content to your site without having to spend either a lot of time or a lot of money. Well, there is. and not only one way, but 3 ways to get fresh content for your website. Reprint Articles The easiest and cheapest way to get fresh content for your site is to use reprint articles. You can go to any of the big article directories like ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com or isnare.com and search for articles on just about any topic. There are two downsides to using this content though: You have to provide a resource box with a link back to the article writer's site - which of course is only fair, since they did all the work. The other one is that the same article can literally be picked up by thousands of other webmasters. One way to work around this is to contact the author of the article and see if he or she would be interested in writing and exclusive article for your site. If you offer them a good link back, many of them will be happy to oblige. Public Domain Works The second option is to find texts and ebooks that are in the public domain. You could for example look for a public domain book on the topic of your website and split it up individual Private Label Articles The last option that I would like to share with you is private label articles. Private label articles are written and then they are sold to a limited amount of people for their own use on their websites, blogs, newsletters and info products. Private label articles can be changed, the buyer can claim ownership and pretty much treat it like any article he has written himself. Since these articles are sold to more than one person, they are much cheaper than buying ghostwritten articles. They almost always cost you well under a dollar per articles and often just pennies apiece. Private label articles can be found on PLR membership sites, websites that specialize in selling individual article packs and even on eBay. Of course not all PLR sites and packages are created equal. Some provide quality content, while others could have been written by a third grader. Do you research before you buy and make sure there is some sort of a money back guarantee if the quality doesn't meet your standard. To learn more about where to find good PLR articles and how to make the most out of them, sign up for this free PLR training course at http://www.plrtraining.com By Jo Han Mok This has to be one of the "best" ways to generate sales. Controversy creates two types of interest. Negative and positive. And both forms of interest work together to make you profits. How exactly? Well, let's do a quick example. Person N and Person P. Person P loves what you have written and can directly relate to what you have said. Person N on the other hand thinks you're an obnoxious creep full of insane beliefs. Both Person P and Person N comment on your writing. They read each others comments and they are inflamed by those comments. So, they begin a back and forth battle of words based entirely on what you had to say! Now comes Person S, Person V, and Person C. They add their two cents and take sides of who's right and who's wrong. Then come more comments. And more, and more. And if you're selling something that expands on your initial post, you'll get both those that hate what you had to say, and love it, buying your product. The negative folks will want further proof that you're a total moron while the positive folks will want to learn more about what you are teaching, or saying. Every single day, millions of folks hop onto the internet and have something to say. Most likely they'll do this through writing. Whether it's through an article, an email, or a blog. The "trick" is to make what you discuss controversial through your writings. Don't be "Boring". That won't do a thing for you. The essence of creating controversy is by using passion. If you've had a bad experience with another person, tell people about it. If you really love a particular product, or person, tell people about it. But be sure that your writings can convey the passion that you feel whether it's negative or positive. If you are effectively creating controversy through your writings, most people that read it will either love what you have to say or hate it. Either way, they'll "Talk About It". And if you give them a chance to communicate how they feel about it, this will lead to more profits in your pockets! But, in order to use controversy you have to be willing to take a stand on a certain topic. No "wishy-washy" comments will do. If you make people angry, "Good"! But don't back down on your opinions though. That defeats the purpose of using this tactic completely. If some people don't like what you're saying, who cares?? At least you had the guts to stand up for what you believe and say it. And that's the point that will come across to those that love your writings. I "Know For A Fact" this works. Jason Cain is a living example of this dirty trick. He uses controversy in his writings and makes immense profits from the dust he stirs up. Some folks hate him. Some folks love him. The love-hate factor doesn't really matter though. What DOES matter is that people are reading what he has to say. And they are 'Listening'. And, they are BUYING. Another terrific example is a fellow by the name of Stuart Halpryn. He creates controversy through the amount of money he charges for products he sells. He lets his readers know that he is directly responsible for pissing other marketers off by charging extremely low prices for their products to his customers. And it works! He's earning good money from using controversy The whole idea of this tactic is to speak your mind, send off a spark, and watch it build into a roaring flame About the Author: Jo Han Mok is a #1 bestselling author and frequent featured speaker at Internet Marketing bootcamps and conferences. An Offer You CAN'T Refuse Yeah, this is an old "gangster" style trick. Although you might not think so once I reveal the one word that describes it. What's the word? Guarantee. But, why did I say it was an old "gangster" style trick? Firstly, did you even bother reading the title? ;-) Second, let's look at it logically here. I'd wager you've seen at least ONE gangster type movie(I'm a movie fanatic, so just stick with me here, it will make perfect sense once I'm finished explaining.) once in your life. These tough guys are running things for a reason. They don't take NO for an answer. It's their way or you're "swimmin' with the fishes" my friend. Now, obviously offering a guarantee isn't the same as whacking someone, but it will most definitely make your offer much harder to refuse. Your customer will feel more secure in the fact that you are shouldering most, if not all, of the risk by letting them get their money back if they are unsatisfied with your product. This little dirty trick not only helps you convert more sales, but it also builds credibility in the eyes of your potential customers because you believe in what you are trying to sell them by taking a loss if they don't. I also highly recommend this dirty little trick to anyone and everyone who is selling anything online. 2. Getting All "Hyped" Up This is a super dirty trick. And admitted "hypers" or not, I can almost guarantee you'll find this type of language slipped in to most sales pages. Now, some Internet Marketers may try and mask this trick by putting a different name on it, but it's the same thing. Now, some marketers will simply say that they have unbreakable confidence in their products, and there's no "hype" in that. Really? I beg to differ. Not that there's anything at all wrong with having that type of confidence in your product, but let's call a duck a duck and not a chicken, shall we? Some more common "hyper" words you may have seen, or be using yourself are: Incredible And there are plenty of others lying in wait to pounce on you. But these are more of the commonly used hype words. So, why do this dirty trick work so well? Because these words spark emotion within your potential customers. And dragging out that emotional connection to your product can more often than not close the sale. A word of caution here though. Don't try and over-hype your product. That could end in you boiling in a pot of hot water in the form of a law suit. And I'm sure you don't want to get scarred up with burns now do you? Use this dirty trick wisely and cautiously. Don't over do it and try your best to stay true to the reality of what your product can, and can't do when describing it with "hyped" up words. 3. "Trash" Talking Have you ever watched a television talk show or professional wrestling? Then you have seen this dirty trick already! But, here's how to apply it to your product or business to gain more "buzz". Find a product that is similar to yours and do some comparison on theirs to yours. Find out what makes yours the better decision for your visitors and exploit the hell out of it! Another boss way to use this dirty little stinker is to raise your own stink about an experience in where one of your competitors has burned you with one of their products that you personally bought. Work in the angle that this painful event is the reason that made you decide to create your own version of this specific product, but you made it better than this other author's version. Don't be afraid to talk some trash about a person or product to highlight the benefits of your own to get the sale. Do be careful of "slander" issues though. You can hide the details of the specific author or product by calling them Mr. X, or Product Z. You don't necessarily have to bash your competition to smithereens to get your point across. Even though sometimes that is fun! Oh, are my devil horns showing? ;-) This dirty trick should also be used sparingly and in context to show your potential customers the benefits of purchasing your product over that of your competitors. About the Author: Labels: Blogs and RSS, Internet Marketing By Jo Han Mok The concept of marketing your business to increase sales and profits is a lie created by evil people who want your money! Nah, not really but that sure got your attention didn't it? You are about to learn just how to apply this tactic with some real-world examples. I'm sure you've heard the term "shock value" before. Well that's what this marketing tactic is all about. Shocking your readers or customers. Some folks will use foul language to shock their readers. Some will use incredible stories. And still others will tell them how they have made huge mistakes. Shock value in marketing has long had a place in Marketing and Advertising and yet most people don't use it, no matter how aggressive their competition is with their marketing. The reality is that businesses, whether online or offline can inevitably benefit if they only apply just a little shock value into their marketing and advertising messages. Sadly, most business or rather their owners or marketing departments, are either too scared or not aggressive enough to grab their market by the throat and make them listen. How many times have you heard or seen these: *Warning* *Don't Be an Idiot Like Me* *I Was A Loser Until I. . .* *Your Methods Of Making Money Suck!* *If You Don't Want X-Y-Z Then Leave This Page Now* *Stop Being An Asshole And Command More Respecct* *20 Time Moron Finally Gets It Right* *Dumb-Ass Makes Six Figures A Year* Or something similar. Those get your attention don't they? Sure they do! And that's why they get used. They suck you in and make you want to keep reading. Let's be honest here. If you can't do a simple thing like generate more interest in what you're selling, then you won't make any money. Simple as that. People, despite what they might say, want to be successful at one thing or another in life. And they want to be the best at it. If they feel they can better their own lives through your tragedy all the better. That's one less person they have to compete with! Plus, they won't feel stupid by making that same mistake. Even better. Use this tactic sparingly though. Too much can turn off your prospects and have them hunting for their answers some where else. Just as this article shocked you with a little vulgarity and put you in a slight state of disbelief at what you were reading, too much vulgarity can turn your prospects off and totally defeat the purpose of using this marketing tactic to begin with. Remember if you put someone in a total state of shock, your chances of getting them to react to your message will go in vain. The key to using the "shock tactic" strategy is to use it in moderation and just enough to get the job done and no more. "A little goes a long way" as the saying goes. The shock tactic can be used more subtly as well. For example, Seth Godin used the title, "All Marketers Are Liars" for his book whose audience was of course, marketers. You see the shock tactic doesn't have to be in poor taste but let your market dictate how much shock factor or how little shock factor you use. A heavily marketed to market may need something that is outrageously shocking, however a moderate or conservatively "marketed to" crowd may respond better to a more subtle apporach. Bottom line is: Use proper judgement when applying the shock tactic in your marketing and know your market before you apply it. There are thousands of free tutorials on how to create an ezine, email marketing etc so brainstorm for something unique that represents your site, your product, or a specific skill you can teach people. Always keep in mind that the aim of any tutorial course is to teach, inform and provide quality information of interest for your target audience through the sharing of your knowledge on subjects you are familiar with. These courses *can* be invaluable for pre-selling your readers on your products if they are done right. Developing your course Decide on your subject then create a lesson plan. Begin by making a list of topics and then depending on the number of topics separate each into your individual course lessons. For example: five topics become five lessons, ten topics ten lessons and so on. Follow the same format for each lesson using plenty of white space to make it easy for people to go back and find information they may like to review again. In the first lesson outline the course contents and what they can hope to learn during the course of your lessons. Give each lesson a number. Give each lesson a title. Then follow with the actual lesson. Throughout your course you can refer to your product/s and how it can help solve a problem within the context of the topic under discussion. Never however, use your course for the blatant advertising of your products and services or it will be a quick click on the un-subscribe button. Develop a prospectus for interested students to download (PDF format gives a more professional look) then create a course outline and sign-up enrolment form page at your web site. Set your auto-responder to automatically deliver lesson installments to each of your paying students at weekly or fortnightly intervals. Tip: Many students like recieving the whole course upon signup. As an alternative offer the course in PDF ebook format. Making this option available will increase the number of student enrolments. Note: Training courses contain no advertising for products or services - they are the product. Many "how to" books can be adapted or broken down into course lessons and presented in this way providing an extra source of income for your business (or as a business in itself) or to be sold offline via direct mail to capture both the online and offline markets. We're burning pixels here! Yes! Pull out your chair, there you go. Sit... alright! Gotcha! Now we're cooking. Yep, there's the familiar tap...and...woo hoo! He's pulling some of my files. We're finally going to get something done! Human has been reading about Web analytics... What is this? He's adding a strange little snippet of code. Hmmm, interesting, it's nonintrusive, but...whoa, baby! I can see who is looking at me! Wow! There's one from Alaska, and Arizona, oh,ya, and that place humans call Florida. This is a rush! Look at those traffic numbers climb! I've got to look at this deal. Ok, ya, reports, good. Easy to read. My human needs to look at these closely. Oh ya! Wait a second! Only 20% of all these people went to my sales page?! That can't continue. Hey, human! Human! Are you seeing this?! It seems Human is seeing the numbers, and he is realizing there is a lot he has been missing by not having used traffic reporting before now... Ok, we need to look at this more closely. I see that 10% are buying once they get there. Hmmm, that could be improved! Oh, geez, look at that product description page - everyone is leaving when they get to it. What's up with that?! Human, you need to get a copywriter on that page, like now! This is interesting, that press release he sent brought 379 people to the site. And 214 are from Florida. What else, oh...keywords! Aha! I don't see my #1 product anywhere. The unpleasant screeching sound issuing from the computer echoes Human's feelings about his site. This Web analytics data is shedding light on some serious issues... Come on, Human! Take your mouse by the horns and make some changes! This is good stuff we're seeing here. Your banner ad on that sweet little site in Canada is getting great response. Do more of that, would ya? I sure wouldn't mind connecting to some other hotties like that one, and we now know that pays off! Human, you're...making changes! You go!!! Ahhh, I'm already seeing a difference...look at that! Not so many jumpers from the description page; they're starting to move over to sales. Now you've got it. Oh ya, this is doing the trick. You're seeing what needs to be changed, what works and what flops! No more long, lonely nights, no more feelings of cart abandonment, no more dollars surfing out of my reach! I'm all choked up...Human, you couldn't have made a better move, and you're going to see the difference I can make now! Oh ya! My virtual world is turning around, thanks to one little snippet and a human who is paying attention to the reports. What about your Website? Don't keep it in the dark, bored, doing nothing for you. Well before the online information age, and probably well after those who read this have retired from marketing. There are two basic situations and some variations. Some people have been able to merge these models to some degree but you'll find customers get confused when the merger is complete. You'll lose more customers if you try to maintain both models with the same list. In the first situation you have what has been referred to as a sales funnel. In this model the marketer entices people to his list by giving away some information. After a time the marketer makes a product offer at a low price point. At this time the list is segmented into those who purchase and those who didn't. The same offer might be made again and the segmentation happens again. The second offer made is for a slightly higher price point. The marketer will find that the list that originally purchased from him has a higher likelihood of purchasing the second product at the higher price point than the first list who have never purchased. At this time the marketer may or may not segment the list into those who have purchased the higher priced item. This same pattern continues with the marketer offering several items always higher than the last. This method of marketing offers the client the best of the marketer and offers the marketer a list of clients who might like to purchase into a higher priced coaching program. The marketer is also able to segment out those customers who will purchase the lower or middle price point products and consistently offer their choice of price point. The opposite of this model is much like an affiliate sales pitch. The marketer finds a customer and offers him high quality information to sign up for his list. The marketer then sells the only product he has to offer at a higher price point. He might then find affiliate products to offer but the offers are haphazard and the newest products on the market that week. Either model will net sales. The first model will net a business empire where the marketer can offer affiliate products when they fit very well with the needs of his client base. The second model will net a continual flow of customers in and customers out who may unsubscribe after purchasing any product that feel meets their needs. In both models the marketer must continue to add customers to their list to continue to make money. The second model may not be the most efficient but it takes less work to set up and run. The first model may take more effort up front but will net a long-term relationship with their customers. It is really the difference between having clients and customers. A definition emerged recently by a 'guru' who said it this way: "I offer various products because my list is not all interested in the same thing. I want to offer everyone something that satisfies them." Again, this is the difference between having a specific targeted list of clients and customers. The more important process is to iron out which concept works best for your particular business model and then stick with it. Switching models mid-stream is almost next to impossible. You'll lose more business than you anticipate gaining by switching camps. If you are committed to trying another sales model then start another niche and test it there. Labels: Internet Marketing By Jo Han Mok Web statistics, performance metrics or whatever you'd like to call them are important numbers that tell you where your business is heading and where it's been. Most people talk about product conversion rates. However, conversion rates depend upon the quality of the traffic that is visiting your site. If you are selling an information product about dog training but people looking for breeds find your site then your conversion rate will be in the toilet, if even on the radar. On the other hand if your list contains people interested in dog behavior and your product is about dog behavior your conversion rate might be as high as 25-30%. Again, the conversion rate depends on the quality of the leads. So what numbers are important? 1. Cost per visitor (CPV) - This number tells you the amount of money you spend to get one unique visitor. If you spend $50.00 to drive 500 unique visitors it would have cost $00.10 for each visitor. $50.00/500=$00.10. 2. Cost per lead (CPL) - This is the amount of money it costs you to generate an opt-in lead. In the same example above 20% of the 500 opted in which means you now have 100 new subscribers. If you have 100 new subscribers for the same $50.00 it took to send 500 visitors to your site your CPL is $00.50. $50.00/100 = $00.50. 3. Cost per sale (CPS) - This is your cost to make a sale. If you spent $100.00 on an ezine ad, which drove 1000 visitors to your site, and you had 20 sales (2% conversion) your cost per sale would be $5.00. $100.00/20 = $5.00. This number MUST be less than the price of your product or your net profits are a negative number. 4. Customer lifetime value (CLV) - This number gives you the value of a customer over their lifetime on your list. You'll have to do some digging for your numbers but for convenience sake let's assume that you have 1500 people who have purchased $150,000.00 of product from you in the past year. The math is $150,000.00/ 1500 people = $100.00 CLV. Each buying customer is worth about $100.00 to you. This number should be considered when you do your ad campaigns. If you have a campaign that barely breaks even you may not run the ad again. However, if you know that your lifetime value of those customers you acquired is $100.00 this would significantly impact your decision. 5. Visitor Value (VV) - This is the value of your visitors which is individualized for each type of advertising channel you use. Let's say you spend $1500.00 on ezine advertising in 2 months. This advertising brings you $5000.00 in sales. Subtracting your costs for the product your profit margin is 70%. $5,000 X .70 = $3500.00 - $1500.00(ad cost) = $2000.00 net profit Your $1500.00 ad generated 8,500 visitors and $2,000.00 net profit. For this particular ad campaign you visitor value is: $2,000 (profit) / 8,500 (visitors) = $00.23 Visitor Value Each type of advertising channel (PPC, banner, ezine) will have it's own visitor value. You must know what the average is for each channel. When you decide to advertise using that channel you then can make a rational decision about how much you can spend. Otherwise you are just making uneducated guesses. Using the calculations you've just done you can evaluate the cost of your current marketing plan. With the appropriate numbers your plan will net you a tidy profit. With the wrong plan your numbers should show you the direction you should now take. They want to take their product, service, or cause and bring it to the masses. As every business professional knows, the easiest and most effective way expand your business is through the use of the Internet. With such a vast expanse of information and the constant access to any number of potential customers, it is absolutely necessary to use the Internet to market your business. Because of this another marketing tool has evolved. Many new strategic Internet marketing firms have come into prominence and are now offering services to these businesses that were not previously afforded to them. Learning what strategic Internet marketing is exactly and how can it help your business will take some research. The answers are not all that complex and they are very important to your success. A simple definition of strategic Internet marketing is that it is a technique for defining a potential market before you enter it. While this might be a very simplistic answer to a pretty advanced question, it is the basic building block upon which the Internet marketing industry is built. If you were to start a restaurant, hotel, or jewelry store without first looking into the possibilities within that market, you would probably fail miserably. The Internet is no different. If you want to start a business there, you must approach it as if it is a normal business. This means putting in the time and research to get things right. It also means that you probably want to hire professionals to determine what you can do within the market with your product. Some people like to look at the Internet as a huge world all its own, that you can cover the entire web at once with your product. It is actually very different. The Internet is more like a little nation, with different sects and towns liking different things. The right people will never make their way to your website if you do not put the right roads in front of them. Through strategic Internet marketing, businesses can assess their possibilities and the reality of their situation. When that is done, it is possible to set goals and objectives for a business. In order for any business to be successful, it must have those high-water marks that it seeks to hit in order to be successful. By using a strategic Internet marketing firm, your business will know exactly what you are working with in a given market. From there, you can begin to formulate a business plan. Strategic Internet marketing is a process that will allow you to not only define your company's goals on the Internet, but also decide who your customers are and how you will reach them. Marketing is all about specialization and getting the right information to the right people. By taking a deeper look at what the market might look like, your business professionals can work with a strategic Internet marketing firm in order to bring these potential customers into your grasp. Strategic Internet marketing firms are a great way to get a leg up on the competition within your given market. It is important to utilize these great tools in order to be successful. Failing to prepare is almost certainly preparing to fail. Approach an Internet business just as your would any other new business venture. It should include a great business plan as well as some solid product promotion in order to be truly successful. Andy West is a freelance writer for Vertical Measures. Many people do feel at sea after they launch their website and attempt to navigate the sometimes confusing channels of the internet. They wonder why their website doesn't get more traffic and why their inbox is not filling up with emails from people clamoring to buy their products or services. It seems that the rules change as often as Oprah changes her clothes and who could ever hope to keep up with that! Price quotes for search engine optimization are all over the map; the process seems never-ending and expensive. How is it that some people seem to have great success on the web without spending a huge amount of money? Is it unrealistic to think that you can make a living working on the web? When faced with a seemingly overwhelming challenge it helps to break things down into bite-sized pieces. Effective websites should include the following: 1. Your website needs to focus on a specific niche. 2. You need to do keyword research and although Google no longer gives weight to Meta keywords some of the other major search engines still do. 3. Your website should have the main keyword used throughout and each page should be written around 5-10 keywords that are tightly focused on that particular page's topic. 4. Content is still King. Well written, focused content is crucial. 5. Meta titles need to include your keywords. 6. Organization of content should include headings and subtitles to make it easy for readers to scan the pages. Be sure to include your keywords in these headings as well. 7. Most people on the web are looking for information. If you don't give them anything of value or entertain them, they will be gone, probably for good. 8. Use keywords in links where ever possible. 9. Include a call to action and if possible offer a Free trial. You have to build trust before you can make a sale. 10. Check your website in various browsers (FireFox, Internet Explorer, etc.) to make sure it displays equally well in all. 11. Your personality is what attracts people to you so why would you create a generic website with all of the excitement of a flat glass of pop. Keep the content fresh so it has Fizz! 12. Most importantly, have realistic expectations of what you want to achieve with your website. With all the hype about overnight successes on the internet it's difficult to put your results into perspective. If you expect instant success and it isn't happening it's easy to become demoralized and quit before you reach your goal. Some Other Important Web Marketing Tips Google page rank counts! The higher your page rank number the higher you will rank in user searches. How do you find out your page rank? Download the Google toolbar here for Internet Explorer Improve your page rank by encouraging other highly ranked websites in complementary businesses to link to yours and by developing content with a niche focus. Page rank is also affected by traffic numbers. A couple of ways you can boost traffic are pay-per-click advertising and posting articles on the web. Your web image is at least as important as your personal image. You wouldn't go out to meet a prospective client wearing a mishmash of styles and colours but many businesses have websites with tools that don't work, tables and text that are out of alignment, old information, dated colours, and confusing navigation. Those things are bad enough but when an experienced web developer looks at the code on a website they often find a website that looks good but is not built to encourage search traffic. Be prepared like the wise owl and make the job of marketing your business as easy as possible with a website that enhances your brand image and is technically sound and purrrr your way to Nancy Fraser of Nota Bene Consulting has been helping clients get better results with their marketing and advertising for over 20 years. Sign up for Notable News and get free marketing tips at http://www.notable-marketing.com Labels: Internet Marketing, Web Site Design By Willie Crawford The answer has to be that unless you do something differently in 2007 than you did in 2006, then 2007 is very likely to be a repeat of 2006. That reality should horrify many people! For many "Internet marketers," which is the category that most of my clients put themselves in, having 2007 be drastically different means focusing on making five major changes. Here they are: 1) Better Time Management We all have only 24 hours in a day, yet some of us get 100 times more done in those 24 hours than others. There are a number of secrets to getting more done in less time. One of those secrets is to actually calculate the value of your time. Simply take your income goal and divide it by the number of hours that you are willing to invest to reach that goal. That will give you a crude dollar figure to use for the "value of your time." It will also make it easier for you to end "time-wasters" such as calls from tele-marketers. Once you have a dollar value for your time, then you only need to DO those things that you can't afford to get someone else to do cheaper (provided it's something that merits doing). For example, if you value your time at $100 per hour, then you should not spend 2 hours designing a web graphic that you can hire someone else to do for $25. Although that makes perfect sense, many people worth $1000 per hour spend a lot of time doing $5 per hour work. Don't you fall into that trap. To learn to properly value your time, I recommend getting, reading, and implementing things taught in Dan Kennedy's time management book. It's called "No BS Time Management For Entrepreneurs - The Ultimate No Holds Barred Kick Butt Take NO Prisoners Guide To Time Productivity & Sanity. It's a great book that you can order through online bookstores. 2) Focusing On Things That Provide The Best Return On Investment This is closely related to number one, but it means that you need to decide which of the hundreds of possible business models and methodologies you should be using as your business model. Everyday, you'll be exposed to dozens of proven ways to grow your business, your website and your income. You can only realistically learn and implement a few of them! Choose one or two methods,or tactics, to grow your business, and then IGNORE the rest. My friend Russell Brunson does this brilliantly. For example, when he looks at website traffic generation, he works on just the things that does best. He actually has staff members who each specialize in different methods of traffic generation. This is something Russell recently shared with my subscribers on a teleseminar. Russell is a master at doing the things that provide him with the best return-on-investment. He is also a master at outsourcing the rest. You should check out this brilliant young marketers system! You'll find it at: http://DotComSecrets.com/willie/ 3) Stop Jumping From Project To Project Inability to focus on one project, and see it through to completion, "kills" more Internet marketers than anything that I've observed. We all have dozens of brilliant idea, and we don't know which one to focus on. We're afraid that if we focus on one, we'll miss out on another. By failing to select ONE of our ideas/projects and focusing on implementing it, we end up not seeing anything through to profitability. That tells you that the very simple solution is to "just choose one." It's a little more complicated than that, in that you should choose the one that means the most to you, and that fits in most with your long-term objectives. However, you DO at some point have to simply choose. Don't worry about making the wrong choice. We live in a universe with millions of choices, and any of them can take you down a different path. Being too paralyzed by fear to choose, is making If it helps, allow me to share with you several of my choices that I made while transitioning to 2007. One choice was to spend less time in the minutia, and to spend more time on high value transactions. To do that I turned to a friend who has earned 8-figures online in the past two years. I figured that he could teach me a thing or two, so I'm learning from him. I'm so committed to the projects, that he's leading me to, that I registered a domain just for that purpose... The domain name above shows you why I focused on that choice. I saw the level of potential and committed to making it a reality. A second choice that I made was to revamp my coaching and mentoring program. I coach and mentor aspiring online marketers primarily because I enjoy seeing struggling individuals with Where I revamped my coaching program was to change my pricing structure, and the application process, so that only those willing to put in the necessary effort are inducted into my With coaching and mentoring in particular, it is a one-on-one venture, and you should only work with those that are appropriate for you to work with. Doing otherwise merely cheats you, and those that you should be working with instead. Back in 2002, one of my "heroes" told me that I needed "a manager." That shocked me at first, but then he explained that, left to our own devices, most of us will spend most of our time doing things that aren't the highest and best use of our time. He went on to explain that this is why top athletes, politician, celebrities, and savvy executives have "managers." Reflecting upon my career in the military, I once served as an "executive office" to a commander. My job was to plan and control his schedule. He would come to work and I'd tell him who he was meeting with that day or that week... and why. I even told him when he had lunch appointments with family :-) Not all of us are so in-demand that we need someone to help decide what we should be spending our time on. Some of us just need an "accountability partner"... someone that we can tell our plans to and then ask them to hold us accountable for accomplishing them. This would be a person that we give permission to push us a little. We give them permission to tell us when we're doing ourselves a disservice. An accountability partner can be someone you meet at a seminar, or even on an online discussion forum. It can also be a formal coach or mentor. I serve as an accountability partner for several dozen people. They ALL have to go through an application process (set up on my website) first. You can see the process at: A coach, mentor, or accountability partner can help you to get more done is many areas of your life. For example, many people make resolutions this time of the year to exercise more. The secret is to have a workout partner (an accountability partner) that you jointly make that commitment with. Then, on those mornings when you'd really rather sleep late, it's knowing that you have someone at the track or gym waiting for you that will get you motivated. 5) Form Strategic Partnerships and Joint Ventures We all learned long ago that "no man is an Island unto himself." If you're trying to do everything yourself, you're not going to get very much done. In the online world "lone wolves" never succeed massively ... that I've seen. You need to partner and form joint ventures with others who compliment your skills and interests. For example, if you are great a starting projects, but never finish them, then you need Over the past 2 months I've interviewed DOZENS of the top online marketers. I often asked them how they got to where they are. Our conversations also often drifted to other online marketers and those marketers' secrets to success. Without exception, all of the top marketers that we discussed, and that I've studied, did NOT get their all by themselves. They had mentors, they formed alliances, and they sometimes had people who gave them a big break. Going back to my career as a military office, the single biggest identifiable factor that I saw that enabled an officer to rise from "Second Lieutenant" to "General" was having a "sponsor." This was someone at the top who took an interest in them and guided them. When I look at Internet marketing, I DO see a similar system. When someone already near the top reaches out and guides you, and introduces you to their influential friends, it does increase your chances of moving up the ladder. This is only common sense. I'll close this article by sharing with you that the online community set up to facilitate many of the things outlined above is called "The Internet Marketing Inner Circle." Yes, there is such a creature. You'll find it at: Now back to the original question... "Will 2007 Really Be Different For Your Online Business?" It can't be different unless you do things differently. Just food for thought as we transition into a new year. Using a variety of accurate internet One way to start looking for information about internet marketing businesses is to use a basic search engine. There are many out there that can make looking for marketing reviews easier for the consumer or the prospective business owner. Some are more reputable than others. Using search engines usually involves knowing, specifically, what to search for in order to get accurate and primary results. A lot of the marketing opportunities available for people fail because they are unreliable and unrealistic. This is coupled with the fact that finding reputable press about the business or opportunity can be complicated, probably due to the fact that the business may not be too reputable to begin with. Using search engines and website lookup information portals can be a good first step to take in terms of looking into the reputation of a particular Internet business or marketing opportunity. There are many opportunities out there for less than honest business people to attempt to take hard-earned money out of the pockets of web surfers. These businesses and these marketing opportunities simply rely on the ignorance of the consumer, so the alternative is to become an educated consumer and learn more about the business than the scammers believe you do. Doing this is simply a matter of having the right sources, reading the right internet marketing business reviews, and learning how to spot a scam. Internet marketing business reviews can come from multiple sources, but a general rule of thumb is to keep an eye out for a general consensus amongst the reviewers. If a business is realistic in its business plan and worth a look, the reviewers will likely agree even if they have a difference of opinion on some of the company's philosophy. Finding this particular type of consensus can be challenging, because of the apparent bulk of negative press available. It is a fact that consumers are more likely to give a bad comment when they are dissatisfied, yet will give no comment at all when they are completely satisfied. There are many issues that may come into play in terms of Internet marketing business reviews. Some reviews may use testimonials to attempt to create a more realistic tone. These Avoid glossing over statistics, especially if the statistics in one particular internet marketing business review can be compared with those from another. If those numbers or those stats do not line up, you should start asking some serious questions about the worthiness of the company. Reading Internet marketing business reviews can be complicated and tricky, especially because of the constant use of flowery language and avoidance tactics. Many reviews will talk about an internet marketing opportunity without actually mentioning anything about the opportunity itself. When reading internet marketing business reviews, it is important to maintain a clear focus so as to understand the actuality of what the review says and not just the spin. Taking into account how many competitors are fighting for your client's credit card number, it is anticipated that marketing, business internet advertising, and online promoting have become buzz words that every entrepreneur who took a home based business to the Net has become familiar with. Ibrahim's goods and services are simply not enough to draw customers and clients, but spreading the word of where these can be had is just important. Individuals who were ad savvy toned down their banner ads to be elegantly constructed and pleasing to the eye. Rather than going for amaze value they enrolled the help of affiliates to publicize the word about their products. Furthermore, these internet entrepreneurs looked to other media to spread the word of their merchandise, and quickly these leaps of faith paid off. Print ads are now regularly taken out for online businesses, and in countless cases a website takes the place of a telephone number. Savvy marketing - business internet advertising at its best, has once again reclaimed the world wide market place and made it a sociable place for consumers and a competitive environment for merchants. There is nothing more satisfying then the pride of ownership that comes from being a business owner - not to mention spending more time with family and spending your day doing the things you want, instead of the things you need to do! Unlike most "brick and mortar" pr traditional businesses, it is possible to start an internet business to make money online without having to work long hours or seven days a week. As a home business owner, you make your own hours and schedule. There are no sick days, no having to make an uncomfortable call to the boss, etc. If you need to be home for most of the day, then starting a home business will give you the income you will need and the freedom to work when you want. Making money online can be done in a variety of ways. The Internet has revolutionized the whole concept of making money. You can sell goods and services through your own web site, you can join an affiliate marketing program - where you become like a "distributor" for the parent company, you can offer your writing, editing, web design, and other creative services to those who need it, or you can find a data entry or customer service program. You can even sell other people's products in what are called "master rights" or "private label rights" programs. No writing skills; business or product-development experience; or business degree are required! One thing that should determine which business opportunity you decide to pursue is the amount of automation provided to you. Remember, this is the Internet! You should be able to leverage your time in the most constructive manner. I hate calling and selling - I think that is an awful way to spend your time. Most of your prospecting time should be on generating traffic through Internet marketing - not cold calling! Finding out more about what is available will require you to search the internet, ask others who work from home, and begin visiting job boards to see what is available. Also, if you choose the affiliate route, be sure to sign up under a good sponsor - one who is part of a good team with tools, resources and mentoring! You shouldn't have to learn lessons the hard way on your own. Learn from the successes and/or failures of your sponsor and the team. Once you have decided which business to go into, you will have to spend time building a web site and marketing your services. Most good affiliate programs provide you with turnkey websites and other material, but you will eventually want to make your own, more personal site. This will help you build a customer base. After a few months, you will have an internet business that makes good money online. Once you have started your business, you may want to find other ventures that will make money. This is what is referred to as "multiple streams of income." There are many programs available that will give you commissions for sales that are made through your marketing efforts. You can find numerous opportunities for this type of program. You may also be able to use one business to promote another. I suggest getting some good experience with one business venture before deciding to grow into multiple income streams. This way, the skills you have developed and the lessons you have learned in your first business can help you get off to a good start with your next one. As you learn more about the internet, you will be able to make connections, see money making opportunities, and you will be able to learn more about what is available. This is a great way to reinvest the money you have earned while maintaining your bottom line. Internet businesses that make money online are those that are continually advertised in different markets - so be sure to diversify your marketing campaigns. By expanding your business or starting another, you will increase your profits and take advantage of everything the internet has to offer. Most importantly, you will be able to attain the pride of business ownership and the lifestyle of your dreams! If you wish to invest little or no money into marketing your site, then you will have to spend a lot of time, energy and show some creativity. I am sure there are other free and inexpensive ways to advertise on line in addition to those described in this article. I will try to research them and update this article as often as possible. 1.) Email Marketing Use your site address as your Email signature. In addition to the address, you should also provide a short but meaningful description of the web site. (Example: www.yourcareerlinks.com 2.) Business Cards, Signs & Gifts Web Master ( that is you ) can print business cards stating information about your web site. Vista Print (www.vistaprint.com) offers free business cards. You pay only for shipping. When you meet people and tell them about the site, you should also give them cards with your web address. It is also a good idea to buy inexpensive small magnetic signs with your web site address and short description, and attach them to your car. Other options for car advertisement are customized frame around your tags and bumper sticker. Mugs, pen and other gifts with your site information are often used to promote web sites. 3.) Reciprocal Links Find web pages similar to yours and ask for reciprocal links (they mention your site at their links page or elsewhere while you do the same at your site.) If you are lucky to have relatives or friends with established, high traffic web sites, ask them to place an ad or link at their site. Don't place link to your site at FFA ("Free For All") pages where you can have link to your site among millions of others. It is useless and some search engines may even penalize you for doing it. 4.) Ezines Another way to market your web site is through Ezines. Ezine is Email newsletter. Some Ezines have 1000s of subscribers while others have only 100s. Usually Ezine Ads are inexpensive. Locate Ezines with content similar to your site and find out how much it costs to place an ad. One can also offer to write articles in exchange for free or discounted ads. You can find Ezine directory at www.ezinehub.com or just type "Ezine Directory" in any search engine, and you will have a list of other Ezine directories. 5.) Message Boards And Chat Rooms Message boards and chat rooms might be good tools to promote web page. One major mistake that many web masters make is to go to message board and just drop message with your web site address. Instead, you should locate chat rooms and message boards with interests similar to your site, introduce yourself, participate in discussions, and then mention your site. This way you will show genuine interest and get acquainted with prospective visitors to your site. Getting visitors to your site is only part of success. People will not stay long and will not come back if there is no quality content which is updated often. I don't care what your site is about, it must have articles or useful up to date information. If you sell shoes on your site, write an article Content can make or break your site. If people like your content, they will recommend it to others, and you will get many additional visitors. Archie Lubman http://www.webhostchecklist.com/tophosts.html Labels: Internet Marketing By Bill Platt As a new business with limited resources, the only real choice is to increase sales. So, the average business owner will dig deep to invest more time and/or resources into the activity of increasing sales. For the new business, there is no other choice... The business owner must make an investment for the purpose of increasing sales. It is a sink or swim proposition, and most business owners will take whatever steps are necessary to help their business succeed. The small business owner, who is in the startup phase of a business, knows instinctively that the only way they will be able to increase their sales is to do some real marketing and advertising for their business. Every small business owner will tackle the development of his or her new business in a different way. Some will make significant investments into their business from their own personal savings. Many small business owners will take every single penny earned by their business and pump it back into the business. Others will take fifty cents on every dollar and pump it back into the business. And then there are those who scrimp and save at every opportunity, even to the detriment of their ability to grow their business. Scrimpers and savers can succeed in business, although it typically takes them much longer to put their business on solid footing, than it takes for the person who invests real resources into marketing and advertising for their business. I am always surprised when I look out into the real world and see business owners who had invested lots of time and money into the development of their business, and then when they need to manage rough financial times, they go against the grain of what had made them successful in the beginning. There is a business owner I know here locally who has experienced some very profitable times in the life of his business. He manufactures and sells a very unique and useful piece of automotive equipment that his customer base loves. His business also has just one major competitor in the marketplace who manufactures a similar product. For all intent purposes, his However, his business has been suffering from dropping sales. His challenge has been to figure out how to keep the doors to his business open. In recent months, he began going to the bank to I fear for his future. In his world, he has been successful selling his product by going to car shows. But, on his last couple car shows, he has not sold enough products at the car shows to cover his expenses getting to the show. I tried to suggest to him the idea of making better use of his website. His response was that when he had gone to the internet in the past, he wasted his $1,000. I inquired further. He told me that he had spent $500 to build his website, and then he spent another $500 to optimize his website for the search engines. He told me that he gets a number one ranking in Google, but that has not helped him to earn any sales. Therefore, in his mind, Internet advertising was an foolish waste of his limited operating capital. I took an hour to look at his website to see if I could see any obvious reasons for the failure of his internet marketing expenditures. Actually, it did not take very long to see the reasons for his failure. I was actually quite surprised to see how the company, who he had hired for SEO (search engine optimization), had helped lighten his wallet of $500. Yes, he did have a number one placement in Google... For the name of his business! Man, that was a tough one to pull off... Unfortunately, the only word that his website had been optimized for was the name of his business! If your potential customers do not know the name of your business, how can you honestly expect people to find you? A lot of business owners put up a website and figure that the people will just come rolling into their new website. Then, reality bites. A well built website will take a new visitor and turn them into paying customers. A well-designed SEO campaign will leave the sales process unharmed, and it will create the foundation for getting better placement in the SERPS (search engine result pages). These days, an integral part of a good SEO campaign is a measure of Inbound Links (IBL's) to your website. The three top search engines --- Google, Yahoo and MSN --- have all declared that the number of links pointing to a website could dramatically affect how well a website performs in their search results. Well-placed and well-constructed IBL's to a website actually serve two purposes: they increase the likelihood of your website gaining better placement in the search results, and they appeal to the person who is looking at the website where your link is located. The best links that point to your website from another website are those that actually peak the interest of your potential customer. A link that says, "MyWebsiteName," is not nearly as effective as a link that reads, "the solution to such-and-such problem." The point is to appeal to what interests the reader of your link. If you can do that, then the people who visit your website will be focused on the problem that you have said that you can solve. Then at the end of the article, after the potential visitor has been educated about the topic they are researching, the reader will see a short, one- or two-sentence sales pitch, and a It is not necessary for the person who owns the website to be the person who writes the article that will promote the website. I am sure you have seen articles that say they were written by one person, and then the "about the author" text kicks right into a pitch for a website. When the specified author of the article is not shown as the "owner of" or "an employee of" the website shown in the "about the author" information, then the author is often a freelance writer promoting the website in exchange for a service fee. The truth is that you can literally find thousands of talented freelance writers on the internet who would be willing to write an article to help you to promote your website. And very literally, you can find several service providers to distribute your article on the world wide web for the purpose of developing Inbound Links to your website. At The End Of The Day... All businesses have one basic requirement: paying customers. Given that every business will experience some shrinkage in their customer list, it is important for a business to continue to Marketing is a process, not an event. Many business owners get bogged down in the idea that they have more important things tospend their money on than marketing or promotion. But, without a steady flow of new customers, a business simply cannot survive. As a small business owner, your goal should be to attract as many new sales to your business as you can for the least amount of cost. Don't be afraid to try new things to boost customer interest. And, if something you tried previously did not work for you, don't assume that future attempts will deliver the same outcome. Just ask yourself, do you want to be someone who has to take a loan in order to make payroll? About the Author Bill Platt has been involved in article marketing since 1999. Did you know that some knowledgeable webmasters are creating absolute FORTUNES today, just by setting up relatively simple content based websites? This article aims to give you the foundations required to join them. Today, we'll look at how you can yourself create sensational content based niche sites and grab your slice of the hefty profits available to online information publishers. We'll delve into the methods of creating content sites, which (free) content based software to use and what types of internet business models work best with content publishing. We'll also touch on the most effective ways of researching which niches are the best to create your content-based sites in. But first, let's touch on just WHY having your very own content based sites could return staggering profits for you: The whole world is coming online. The internet is all about information, and the publishers who know how to implement a successful information based website (in any niche) can extract Technology has evolved to a point where many internet users have access to broadband & wireless connections and fast PCs. This means that information publishers can offer content Some niche markets are just beautifully set-up for content sites. For example, take the travel niche - here, website viewers are far more likely to click on to the publishers Adsense displays (as many people do their holiday research online) and affiliate links. If for example you have a website on holidays in the Maldives, how likely are targeted browsers to click on Adsense displays offering quality Maldives vacations? Very. For more information on the travel niche take a look at this Travel Niche Site Creation Kit. The best part is that there are literally thousands of niches and sub-niches for you to create content sites in. Internet marketing, finance, travel, health & beauty...the list is endless. Now that you're fully aware of the potency of developing your own content based niche sites lets look at how you can get hold of free software that can have you churning out quality niche sites, again and again. There are of course different ways to go about creating content based websites. However, if you're looking to the future then one of the best options is JOOMLA Why Joomla? It's a high quality CMS (content management system). The days of having flat html website pages are numbered. Sure, the majority will still present their content in this way for years to come but the spectacular returns will be made by those using and 'understanding' content systems like Joomla. Joomla is currently available for FREE. It's also quite simple to install and allows you to create good looking pages that are completely customisable. Presenting content through blogs became highly popular during the backend of 2004 and is still "in" today. Blogs do offer a lot of advantages compared to standard html pages but the problem now is that it's possible for certain types of software to create literally thousands of "blogs" at the touch of a button. Many of these blogs contain identical content. These "spam blogs" are spreading through the internet like viruses so you can imagine the problems of using blogs now to present quality content. You're up against 'millions' of sites - all competing for attention. The chances of being spidered and indexed with a good search engine location? Not so good anymore. Joomla is a content presentation platform that is a natural progression from blogs. Joomla can easily be set-up to create very good looking content pages that also blend in affiliate links (eg via Amazon/Clickbank), adsense displays and your own product offerings. This is the structure that all your content websites should take - no matter what niche they are in. It's a structure that maximises your revenue from any given number of visitors. Joomla can also be used to implement various successful internet business content-models including membership site, storefront "magazine" formats. We've now investigated the benefits of owning quality content sites, how to structure them and the most dynamic free CMS software available. In this last part of the article let's focus on how to identify niche markets that are ripe for you to penetrate. If you're struggling on deciding which niche market to enter then here's a quick checklist that you can use to make sure you've chosen a niche that should fit in nicely with a content based site: Your proposed niche should have a high number of prospects interested in it. What constitutes a high number varies according to circumstances, but in general there should be a potential market of millions, or even billions (for example the travel niche outlined earlier). Your prospects should be cash-rich. They should be able to afford to buy what you're pitching. For instance, people interested in the stock market tend to be relatively affluent individuals looking for ways to increase their wealth. Most of them will gladly spend money to get hold of information that will help them develop their stock picking skills. There should be at least a couple of high-ticket affiliate programs that you can plug in to increase your overall revenues. Many content site owners will not have their own big-ticket product so it's important to be affiliated with a quality program that can generate hundreds of dollars or more per sale. Again, the travel niche is a great example of this because the site owner can set-up a site about the Maldives as a luxury holiday destination and can link to several travel agents that offer 5% commissions on holidays sold. Given that the average Maldives holiday sells for several thousands of dollars it means very plump commissions for the content site owner. There should be an active contextual market available. Adsense is fast penetrating just about every niche imaginable, but there remain some areas where the number of contextual Determining which niche to enter is an important decision because it's a long term commitment. Once you enter a niche with a content website, you should be looking to develop it constantly. This means updating the site with fresh information of value to the target prospect so they keep coming back to your site again and again. This will inevitably mean they keep buying more related products from you and keep clicking over your Adsense displays. The great thing is that it really doesn't take that long to create an impressive portfolio of content based websites...all pulling in substantial revenues from various sources. As a direct result, markets are getting smarter-and getting smarter faster than most companies." - The Cluetrain Manifesto The explosive growth of many ecommerce websites may be directly linked to conducting business differently than their storefront counterparts. It is estimated that 17-20% of the earth's population taps into the worldwide web on a regular basis. Savvy web proprietors see the amazing possibilities in ecommerce. That power is very simple to define. It is the power of response. Prior to the advent of the Internet most business relied exclusively on mass marketing in hopes someone would pick up a paper, listen to a radio station, watch a television program or read a sports guide. Obviously this form of marketing has a semblance of success or it wouldn't be used. However, as online marketing has become more sophisticated, web-based entreprenuers are discovering that they can actually gain significant control over how to market their ecommerce site and who to target with their message. "The new information technology, Internet and e-mail, have practically eliminated the physical costs of communications." - Peter Drucker The list of online marketing resources is significant, but it is continually fueled by instant, effective and global communication between client and staff. The use of email has rendered mail a component of product fulfillment instead of client correspondence. The same tool can be used to inform your client base of new products, services or special online events. Most customers like the ability to communicate instantly. Email can allow this objective without wait times on a phone service with menu choices longer than a local fast food joint. It is understood that the use of an online retailer offers both an impersonal and highly personal means of shopping. Impersonal because the customer receives no high-pressure sales pitch - personal because customer service is standing by to handle any difficulties. The Internet will help achieve "friction free capitalism" by putting buyer and seller in direct contact and providing more information to both about each other. - Bill Gates Online marketing provides the means to draw customers to your website in very specific and targeted ways that were never achievable by standard mass marketing campaigns. The process for developing a comprehensive online marketing strategy involves mobilizing your resources to optimize your site, provide meaningful content to visitors, making sure your site is easy to navigate and providing goods or services the customer needs. As with a brick and mortar store it is important to always keep the customer first. Here are some typical salaries in USD: Additional Salary links: Because the search industry is relatively young, there are only a handful of online courses and certifications offered in the field of Search Engine Marketing (Search Engine College being one such training provider). Most search engine marketing practitioners are self-taught, learning the trade by experimenting with their own sites, researching trends, attending conferences and participating in discussion forums and so employers don't generally require SEO / SEM certification or a tertiary qualification as a pre-requisite for a position in the industry. However, candidates who hold a marketing degree or specific industry certification in Search Engine Marketing may well have an edge over their fellow applicants when it comes to interview selection. Everything you need to know to become a Search Engine Marketer, you can learn online. All the information is out there, you just have to find it. To become an expert in SEO / SEM, you need to do research, research and more research. Read everything you can get your hands on relating to search on a daily basis, including articles, forums, ebooks, blogs and newsfeeds. Then you need to put this knowledge into practice by experimenting with your own sites, or finding guinea pig sites to practice on such as those of friends, family or charity sites until you find the methods that give you the best results. Programming knowledge is not a pre-requisite for SEO / SEM jobs, but it does help to learn basic HTML. There are plenty of free HTML tutorials online. If you don't fancy years of research or are in a hurry to jump-start your career in search, consider taking an online Certification course in one of the many Search Engine Marketing disciplines such as the Certification Pathways provided by Search Engine College. These type of courses are usually tutor-led and designed to fast-track your training and ensure you gain the right type of skills to make you immediately employable within the search industry. Because most of the work you'll be doing is online, Search Engine Optimizers and Search Engine Marketers often have the freedom of choice to work for an employer, work from home and/or freelance. Many SEO / SEM freelancers end up hiring workers and starting their own company due to the massive demand. This gives search engine marketing experts the work from home lifestyle that others can only dream of. Once they know what they're doing, it's very easy for a Search Engine Marketer to wow their clients. The difference that a successful SEO or PPC campaign can make to a client's bottom line is substantial. I've seen online conversion rates for a client zoom from 1% to a massive 5% after just two small tweaks to their web site. And although rankings are not as important as actual conversions, clients still get very excited to see their site listed in the top 10 search results for certain keywords. It's the WOW factor in action. As mentioned in relation to search engine salaries, there are literally many more jobs than there are skilled marketers to fill them. This extreme demand means Search Engine Marketers can pick and choose their jobs and/or clients. The more skilled marketers are head-hunted regularly. For Search Engine Optimization firms, there are more than enough clients to go around and rarely a need to advertise for new business. That's why you often find SEOs turning away clients or recommending their competitors during extremely busy periods. Experts in select specialties such as Pay Per Click Advertising (a sub-set of Search Engine Marketing) are currently enjoying even higher demand than usual, as advertisers out-bid each other to have their site shown for popular keyword searches on Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Another indicator of high demand is the sheer number of search-related job postings seen on employment sites such as those listed here. There's something very trendy about people in search that I can't quite put my finger on. There's a constant buzz around them. If you've ever been to a search engine conference or to Google's headquarters you'll know what I mean. Maybe it's the fact that they've come from so many different professions. Or that the age range of search marketers varies from teens to Baby Boomers. Or their whacky dress sense. Maybe it's the smell of money and happiness that they give off. Maybe it's the fact that they are constantly in the media. I don't know. All I know is that it's no longer uncool to be a geek. In fact it's downright hip to be square. Skills in search engine marketing are portable and global. You don't need to be at a desk, in an office or on the phone all day. You don't even need to meet your clients. Of all my clients, I've probably only met 20 percent of them and spoken to half of them on the phone or via chat. You can be on vacation for six months out of the year in various locations and still conduct business. You literally only need a computer and an Internet connection. The Internet is the universal equalizer. You can service clients in any country in the world, in many different languages. You can compete with one man operations and Fortune 500 companies on the same level playing field. The flexibility of the search industry is a huge advantage over other career options. Search is a fascinating industry. With all the hype, daily gossip, corporate take-overs, start-ups and geek toys, I can guarantee that you won't get bored. This combined with the flexible work hours, low start-up costs, ability to be your own boss and the excellent income keeps job satisfaction high for Search Engine Marketers. The internet is a valuable tool and resource for companies and business ventures, but one drawback of the internet is fierce, world-wide competition that makes survival crucial to staying successful. While many individuals choose to build their own ebusiness and create websites to sell their products and services, effective marketing is the only reason companies survive. Most people don't have the skills or knowledge on how to securely promote their company to stay above the pack. Getting lost in the virtual world and missing out on sales from potential clients due to stiff competition winning out means that strong internet marketing services are imperative for long-term success. One of the most important factors in having a successful ebusiness is achieving hits from surfers and readers to promote website popularity and boost ranks in search engines. A simple search returns thousands, sometimes millions, of links and most individuals only consider the first page of link returns that their search engine provides. Solid internet marketing services means that your ebusiness rises in rank towards that all-important first page of search engines. Ultimately, strong internet marketing services mean profits, income, recognition and awareness to increase your enterprise's popularity and securely root your site where it needs to be. There are many ways to boost your site's popularity. Article marketing is the latest trend, and having excellent articles that are search-engine optimized using careful keyword placement, all the while having documents that maintain an informed, professional and interesting appeal, drastically improve your website's chances of success. However, article marketing requires high-quality writing, is time-consuming and has to be continually analyzed for results and adjusted to be the most effective possible. Having a professional company handle your article marketing strategy is the only way to contend with your competitors and meet challenges head-on, unless you plan to invest a large amount of time and effort that ultimately keeps you tied up and away from landing sales. Blogs are another strong internet marketing service that has shown to be popular with Generation X and younger individuals. Blogging is similar to article marketing, in that articles relevant to your enterprise and ebusiness need to be distributed widely and effectively across the virtual world. The continual stream of information blogs provide responds perfectly to the Generation X population's need for fast, concise information. The results of blog marketing have proven to be an excellent method of boosting website search engine ranking and popularity, drawing in clientele. But again, as with article marketing, the time and need for top-quality appeal is crucial to effective blog marketing and most business owners need to focus on their own company. Leaving the promotion and marketing to professionals so that you have your hands free to deal with your business saves you both time and money, factors that are imperative to business survival. Press releases are another strong way to boost search engine ranking, drawing thousands of readers and potential clients to your website. Press releases that are properly written to catch attention and carefully placed to maximize exposure improve your company's reputation. Showing clients who you are and what you can offer, as well as impressing them with solid business tactics and strategies, will provide your website with a steady stream of traffic to increase your chances of getting known in the virtual world. While the time and effort of creating and submitting press releases is lower than article and blog marketing, only the highest-quality press releases get noticed by consumers and consulting professional internet marketing services for the best results is a smart business choice. Choosing a reputable internet marketing services for your business is important. While you want to concentrate on your clients, sales and landing potential contracts or customers, you need to have confidence in the promotion companies you deal with. Make sure to ask plenty of questions about the options any marketing business provides and take the time to discuss both costs and results with internet marketing service providers. Qualifications and experience are important, so be sure that the marketing company you deal with has the knowledge to perform effective analysis and adapt changes, as well as having a solid, strong network that places your business where individuals will take notice. Dealing with professionals that save you time and money, providing tangible results that boost your ranking and sales, will be one of the wisest choices you make for your business success. . Labels: Internet Marketing Danny Wirken The Common Goal Of SEO And Paid Search Advertising The goals of both Search Search Search Optimization, on the other hand is about coming up with a website design that can easily be crawled, indexed and well-ranked by major search engines. There are several types of SEM services including search engine advertising, paid submission for directories, search engine optimization marketing and aggregators marketing. Search engine advertising includes the Paid-For- Placement (PFP) or the Pay-Per-Click (PPC) program as well as contextual advertising. A placement on the result pages of the search site and within its distribution network is guaranteed upon payment. The key factors of this type of advertising are keyword research and selection, bid price, effective ad copy and traffic landing pages. Paid submission actually applies to directories. In this type of marketing program, the website owner pays for a human based review of its site although inclusion is not always guaranteed. The site is usually included from 7 to 14 days depending on the directory. The success of paid inclusion is largely determined by the selection of the category as well as the title and description of the business. Search engine optimization aims to produce organic and natural results through the design and creation of spider-friendly websites. It is basically a science of keywords placement, content enhancement, site structure and link popularity campaign that is expected to maximize the probability of attaining top ranking. It is considered the heart of all SEM campaign notwithstanding the fact that more and more business developers tend to forget its importance. Although it is not impossible to achieve very swift results, an optimization process usually takes a few months to have its goal realized. The aggregators or price engines have made it a lot easier for online shoppers to get the information they need about required products and their associated price. They are able to offer a broad range of pricing and features. Chances of success are maximized through pricing strategy, product availability, product description and shipping rates. Online businesses are facing tough decisions on setting a budget for online marketing specifically for organic search engine optimization. Paid advertising is very much in demand which accounts for quickly eaten up budget. More often than not, depleted advertising budgets are readily remedied by providing a new budget. The same cannot be said for SEO budgets as campaigns tend to end as budgets are exhausted. SEO is apparently not getting the respect it deserves since the success of organic optimization is a lot more difficult to measure. The real value of the keywords that make the rank will be better seen as more improved and cheaper analytical tools become available. Statistics would show that there are at least two offline sales generated for every online sale that occurs. Research reports reveal that a large percentage of searchers complete their purchases in offline retail stores. This is considered a direct result of their search activity. Telemarketing and other forms of leads generation have been sending signals of a saturated market. This has prompted many companies especially the manufacturers to turn to the web to get new leads. Finding a prospect usually starts with a paid search strategy which eventually evolve into SEO. Maximum results are obtained from the combined strategies only if companies commit to make SEO a part of their long term marketing strategy. The ultimate measure of success of Search The Search Environment Under SEM Strategies Majority of the marketing budgets from small businesses are dominated by paid search. The smaller a company is, the higher its reliance on paid search and the higher the percentage of total spending. SEO is quickly overtaking spending on banner ads for manufacturers as focus is shifted to training existing web team staff and education on the creation of content that is optimized for search engines. The first half of 2006 can be considered a period of expansion, growth and significant change in search marketing. Never have there been as many online options available to advertisers and their agents like now. Search has become a part of the mainstream marketing consciousness, but there remains much room for innovation and invention. This development has presented a dilemma for the traditional search marketing sector. There are at least three major search related marketing venues existing: the traditional organic search results, the paid search advertising market and the social networking sphere. Each of these venues use some form of search as a distinctive guide towards finding information while a tremendous amount of integration and interaction exists between them. The SEO sector is being overshadowed by the PPC market and at the same time being challenged by social networking. Major search engines constantly strive to improve and innovate on methods that would correctly rank web documents. This is the very reason for the fundamental changes seen in organic search engine optimization. SEO focuses on a myriad of on-site and off-site issues such as hosting, link acquisition and competitive research. An increasing number of applications are being added for organic search results. The dozens of on-page elements which SEO works on makes it more complicated due to the time involved. However, fresh and focused content remains the single most reliable element of a successful website. Paid search advertising has been experiencing a rapid growth as a sub-sector of the industry, propelling Google and Yahoo! to the front of the pack. It continues to undergo several forms of expansion to allow more and newer options for advertisers. The distribution of paid ads to third party web properties is a very interesting aspect of paid search advertising. Click fraud detection and advocacy is closely associated with this particular venue. The social networking atmosphere is touted to be the most fluid search marketing venue. It is expected to be a preparatory step towards transition in web-interactive development. It is currently taking place in an environment that is tagged as Web2. This is the topic that I'd like to share two recommendations on today. These recommendations are tempered by ten years of experience as an internet marketer. One of the biggest challenges faced by most webmasters, that I've talked to, is attracting enough qualified traffic. It's a problem that has an incredibly obvious solution to me. The solution is simply to go to where the traffic is and redirect it. As an example, sites such as Ebay (TM), MySpace (TM), and the major search engines get the majority of online traffic. That means that you should go to those places too, and get in front of There are dozens of easily implemented ways to redirect that traffic. Let's look at just two of the easiest methods. The single easiest, free, long-term technique that I've used is article marketing. That's why I've written over 500 articles on internet marketing, and spread them throughout cyberspace. Article marketing can be as simply as generating quality content that the search engines (and your visitors) will love and then feeding it to them. Let's think outside the box for a second on this topic, and redefine articles as pieces of information that your ideal customers are looking for. That opens up a whole new world of possibilities for you. For example, now I can think of my recipe database as a database of articles. It would be more accurate to define it as a database of content, but I'm approaching it as many would approach articles because I want to share with you how I use this. I use automated software to post many of my recipes online to attract my ideal customers... people online looking for recipes who will also buy my cookbooks. I simply use a piece of software that can grab hundreds of my recipes (text files on my computer), insert them into a template, and upload them to my websites. That means that I can generate a QUALITY, very focused, useful website that the search engines and my visitors LOVE ... in mere minutes. The software that I use to generate hundreds of highly focused, quality web pages, in mere minutes saves me HUNDREDS of hours per month, and generates an incredible amount of traffic for me each month. Can you see that by using this software, as I do, you can take a batch of articles (or content) on any topic and create a highly focused, traffic generation website in a fraction of the time? The "secret" tool that I use for this is at: I mentioned earlier that places like MySpace.com can send you major traffic. Let me briefly explain automating part of the process there. MySpace is a social community where much of the focus is on building a "friends" list. You are allowed to invite any of the MILLION of members to become your friend, and part of your network of contacts. A recent press release stated that there were 106 million MySpace accounts as of September 8, 2006, and that the site attracts 230,000 new members per day. A "web metrics report" that I recently read put MySpace.com as the sixth most visited site on the internet. You really can't afford to ignore such a HUGE concentration of traffic. You want to build a list of people interested in your topic, and then invite them to join your friends list. You can then send them messages, or post bulletins, using MySpace's internal system. There are people who have built friends lists of over 100,000 targeted contacts. Can you imagine being able to compose a simple message and then in a few seconds send that message to your list of friends and have it magically appear in their MySpace inboxes? Assuming your list is highly targeted... perhaps a list of MySpace members interested in collecting comics, or any of The key to making this a productive way to generate targeted traffic is to use software to build, manage, and contact your friends list. Without the software, you would spend an inordinate The software that I've tested and recommend for automating traffic generation through MySpace is at: Just the two pieces of software that I shared with you above EASILY generate tens of thousands of website visitors for me every day. Most of that traffic is generated by my articles. There are countless other simple, automated, and semi-automated methods of generating website traffic that do work. They work very effectively, and can work long-term... as long as they are not abused. Take a look at these two tools today. Study the tutorials available for free that explain how to use each tool. Allow the tutorials to spark hundreds of additional ideas and angles. If I can do it with a topic as mundane as recipes, I'm sure that you can do it in your niche. Niche directories attempt to collect as much information as possible within specific research areas, for example, a web directory of career advice, or a web directory of safe toys for children. A web directory can take different forms, according to how the information is gathered. Some directories accept paid submissions. Information is there because people pay to be listed. Understanding the structure of how a web directory collects and presents its information lets you now how much you can trust the information it contains. All of the packages for choosing Internet hosting will be offered for a fee. Some of those fees are presented in the form of set-up fees, which allow the Internet hosting site to provide you with domain name registration and the opportunity to have your business website built by web professionals or offered in a website design package. The website design package will allow
you to custom build your business image from the ground up using your own ideas, styles and color choices.
Beware of landmark services that state they will create a business website at no charge, but will require a 4-year contract for their services at a low monthly fee. In these services, what you will get will be a business website that might be totally different from the verbal requests for color,
links, and basic page design. When these services lock you into the contract, they will leave you with a website and nothing else.
Nobody will be able to find your website on the Internet because these landmark typed services do not include that in their free website package offerings. For absorbent fees, you can find other web companies to market your business. You will be lucky if you can get the landmark Internet hosting service on the phone.
Another area that is offered in a package is the E-commerce website package. These landmark Internet services have contracts with credit card companies who will be included on the list of credit card services your business can accept. The credit card machines that you use at your brick and mortar company will not be suitable for use with your web based business.
The credit card machines that are included in your E-commerce package will come with a four-year contract that is non-cancelable, and will be an additional price you will have to pay on top of the price you are paying for web hosting services. In order to get approved for accepting credit cards on your website, though, you must sign this 4-year non-cancelable contract and the machines will be sent to your address. For a low monthly fee of $59.05, you can now accept credit cards in your online business.
These are some of the packages that are being offered through Internet hosting sites. While some of them are hardly appealing, they are offered and people get cuckolded into signing on the dotted line. The only comfort that a business owner has in these situations is that the business expense can be deducted on the income tax forms. Be wary of what is included in all packages for choosing Internet hosting sites, because some of those packages will cost more than you ever

Articles are the core of information on the net, whether they are objective or subjective about any issue. Search engines were built to provide content and actually the struggle was to provide the most relevant web content according to the search terms the user provides.
Article Marketing is a relative new internet marketing industry with great potential. However many pitfalls and misunderstandings have been released lately. That was expected because it's a market principal, whenever there is growth and opportunity, "opportunists" and "scammers" step in.
The first subject is the article submission software and article automation procedures of any kind. The promises sound great. Massive submissions to article directories with push button software solutions. As tempting as it may seem, it is too good to be true. That happens because the algorithms the huge search engines corporations developed are so advanced that they detect any instant massive growth of links of any website. They are programmed to consider this "growth" as unnatural and then take precautions. These precautions could be a downgrade on search engine results for the spamming website or ban it completely form the search engines.
In simple words do not try to fool search engines giants like Google for example. Their spam filters are extremely advanced. Even if you succeed the spamming temporarily you will be discovered sooner or later and if you have a serious online business you jeopardize it.
The same applies to instant and massive web content growth of the website. For example if you had a website with five sub WebPages and after 3 days you have 2000 web pages. Google spam filters will detect it again as an unnatural web content growth of your website and proceed to the according measures. You must realize that search engines will do anything to protect the quality of their search results because this will bring targeted traffic and consequently the advertisers. You must grow your website and internet exposure step by step. This way you will gain long turn results and you will not be afraid of Google's frequently algorithm's alterations because you follow the rules.
The next subject is the PLR industry (Private Label Articles). Since most of the people are not writers or they despise writing, there comes the PLR solution which is monthly service (most of the cases) providing a number of articles each month to the subscriber. These articles are written by ghost writers and provided to hundreds of paying subscribers. It seems ideal but it's not.
The spam filters are here too and focus on duplicated content. The same article by dozens of websites will not give you any advantage. What you can do is to modify them or by hand (which
is time consuming) or with using some of the anti-duplicate content software titles. But there relies a problem. Most of these software titles do modify the articles for search engines but it's not readable by the users. So you must be careful and check constantly what the PLR software provides and how alters the article.
The last subject relates with the article directories which have been increased massively the last two years. Should you consider submitting your article to 500 article directories without examining the quality of each one, or you should improve the quality of your article and submit it to qualitative ones?
The second case is more effective in the long run because you maximize your possibilities to have your article published to a huge online publication with thousands of unique visitors daily. In that way you gain massive exposure and most important credibility to your industry.
Finally the conclusion of the above is that shortcuts will not help you. The future on web content industry belongs to people who are not afraid to write (they don't have to be novelists) and produce Unique content. The entrepreneurs who grasp the value of unique content and apply it to their marketing efforts will definitely gain the advantage.

Having a decent quality microphone is critical to ensure that the audio recording is a quality recording. Filter out extraneous noises, or select a recording area that will not be Interrupted. Use recording software that will allow you to edit out audio snippets that are subpar.
Using music to introduce and end the podcast adds polish to the overall show. You can licensee rights to podsafe music that will allow you to use music in a royalty free capacity. If your show
is popular you might find that the music is linked to your show, as part of your brand, so you will want to choose it carefully. There are a number of podsafe music directories where podcasters can purchase music that is royalty free, meaning there would not be any recurring charges when using the music in a podcast.
As with intro and outros, theme music can add a level of professional to a podcast. It is illegal to use copyrighted music in your podcast unless you own the copyright or license it through the proper channels. Consider visiting one of the podsafe music directories to locate music that is reflective of your show.
It is not enough to record the audio for a show. Polished podcasts are produced using audio editing software. The editing software allows podcasters the ability to filter unwanted noises and edit any dead air or parts of the show you dislike.
Keep in mind that many listeners will find your podcast through a web page or search engine. Your podcasts title should be catchy and related to the podcasts content. The podcasts title should contain a slogan that conveys the general theme of the show.
The Apple iTunes Music Store has a huge audience. Podcasters can tap the iPod audience by adding the appropriate iTunes tags to their podcast. There are software applications that will walk you through the process of adding iTunes to podcast feeds. After adding the tags simply submit your podcast for inclusion in the iTunes Music Store. The listing should appear within a few weeks.
Podcasts are now a dime a dozen. In order to truly stand out the show needs a unique angle, a unique view, an interesting perspective, something different from all the other podcasts out there.
Add an image to your podcast feed, the extra step will add a bit of polish to your show. Many podcatchers or RSS readers will display the image beside the podcast listing. The visual effect will make your podcast jump out of the list.
Who are Your Listeners? Understanding your audience will allow you to cater to them. Know the demographics of your target audience. A well-defined target audience will also help you find show sponsors or advertisers.
Optimize your podcast shows summary for search engines. Be sure to include keywords or related resources in the podcast feed. This will allow search engines to spider the text for words that relate to your podcast.
Many podcasters neglect to include a show transcript, podcasters should consider including detailed show notes or a transcript of the show in the description of the podcast feed. If you display the feed this will increase the likelihood that those interested will find your show in the search engines and podcast directories.
The show should only be as long as necessary, without being a rambling. Most listeners will have a limited amount of time to listen to podcasts, as a result they will be selective about what they listen to.
Create a recording schedule and stick to it, if you don't have time to do it properly then skip a show, your listeners will appreciate that you did not waste their time.

In the earlier days of marketing, business internet advertising took the form of banner ads. Many of these banner ads sought to draw clients by being brighter and more colorful than the competition. This soon translated into neon orange banner ads that would make your eyes ache. Shortly, this color war was not enough, and animation was added to the banners. Hence, banner ad marketing - business internet advertising, at its natiest in some cases, got a dreadful reputation and numerous webmasters took down a lot of the more unbearable ads. Undoubtedly, this left merchants clamoring for other ways of advertising their commodities and services.

permission-based email marketing is that effective, targeted
email messages are sent to a carefully controlled list of

means that people on your list requested that you send them

wish to be added to your list just to ensure that they didn't

For those who are new to the Internet, or at least to the
concept of making money on the Internet, you will find that
network marketing on the Internet is not necessarily the same
as what one may think from personal knowledge. Although it may
involve the concept of recruiting new people to join the
network, many times it involves becoming an affiliate member of
an established network. In many ways, this works better than
recruiting new members into the group because you are already
working with an organization that is established. People tend
to feel more comfortable working with companies who are already
established as opposed to newcomers.
work you do will be promoted with the use of the Internet. As
everyone knows, the Internet is the biggest source of
advertising that exists in the 21st century, and for those who
take advantage of all of its potential, a comfortable lifestyle
is surely a reality. For many people, it has made the difference
in being self-sufficient or depending upon others since many
people unable to work a regular job due to family obligations
or health issues are now able to contribute to the family
income.
either network-based, affiliate-based, or a combination of the
two. The difference in these business concepts is that if the
business is network-based, you are required to recruit new
people to come into the network, much like multi-level
marketing organizations like Amway and Herbal Life. The
difference is that many of the Internet organizations actually
do the placements for you so that you don't have to do any
actual recruiting. With an affiliate program, you have a
website with the products you are promoting for the
organization with which you are affiliated. You receive either
a flat fee or percentage for every sale that generates from
your site.
exactly what you can expect, and if it sounds too good to be
true, it probably is. It's important to be able to distinguish
the scams from the real programs, and the best way to do that
is in the way they advertise. The easiest way to notice a scam
is if there is a fee to join. That should automatically send up
a red flag because in all honesty, you can become an affiliate
on your own with Internet giants such as Amazon, Barnes and
Noble, and many others without paying a fee. No, they don't
provide you with a website, but you don't have to pay for the
"privilege" of being an affiliate, either. ClickBank is one of
the bigger providers of affiliate memberships, and they often
pay as much as $4 for each sale. It is up to you to decide if
you want someone who will provide a website for you to "store"
the products or if you are content to promote your own website
and include banners or links to the sites where you hold
affiliate memberships.

links to your site. You can post these books or special
reports on ebook directories, give away sites and use JV
partners to give to their list. Encourage people to pass
the information along to their friends who have an interest
in the topic. If your information is accurate and helpful
you'll find many people be passing the book to friends.
Essentially you give your customer and visitors a way to
easily share your website. Depending upon your market you
may find that offering an incentive to tell a friend or two
will encourage more traffic. Incentives can be free

tell-a-friend script has been executed. Assure your

enter their friend's address. They are not opting their

A web directory is just what it sounds like: a directory that is found on the World Wide Web, that directs you to various web sites. Unlike a search engine, which displays results based on key words and phrases, a web directory groups information into categories by topic. Perhaps the best known web directory is the Yahoo Directory.

the Internet, you will be left behind.
Any business can put together a successful Web-based marketing
plan if they take the time to define the six critical elements
of a Web-marketing campaign:
1. Marketing Purpose
2. Marketing Objectives
3. Presentation Vehicle
4. Information Format
5. Marketing Venue
6. Achievable Expectations
1. Marketing Purpose
Marketing is all about building a brand personality that
relates to an interested audience of either
business-to-consumer or business-to-business prospects.
Prospects search-out brands that help them construct and
maintain their own self-image or at least an image that they
aspire to, an image that they are comfortable communicating to
others. The purchase, for example, of a Macintosh computer says
as much about who bought it, as it does about that person's
computing requirements.
"Thus, while the psychological/emotional need is to construct,
reconstruct, and maintain the self-identity, the socio-cultural
need is to communicate to others the self-identity." -Ouwersloot
& Tudorica, 'Brand Personality Propositions'.
Accepting the need to build a brand personality that legitimate
prospects can relate to might very well mean rethinking exactly
who you are as a company and exactly what you are offering on
both a psychological, emotional and socio-cultural level.
Most companies have a well-defined list of functional benefits
that they provide clients; but what you have to ask yourself
is, what psychological, emotional, and socio-cultural benefits
do you offer and are they represented by your corporate image
or brand personality? And if you think this only applies to
consumer product companies, you are mistaken. Every company
from industrial widget suppliers to packaged goods
manufacturers needs to define their personality in terms of the
emotive benefits they provide.
2. Marketing Objectives
One of the most difficult things for small companies to accept
is that sales are the result of establishing an appropriate
marketing framework. Once you recognize that the real purpose
of marketing is to create a relationship with your audience
based on an emotional connection in the form of a brand
personality, you are ready for the next step: defining your
marketing objectives.
Successful marketing campaigns rely on strategies and tactics
that grow out of defining eight important marketing objectives.
Awareness: objective one is to make your market audience aware
of your existence, but name recognition alone won't bring in
the orders.
Attention: objective two is to draw attention to your company,
product, or service. Your market audience may be aware of your
existence but not understand or care what you do or why they
should be interested. You have to do something to attract their
attention before they'll listen to what you have to say.
Comprehension: objective three is to explain to your market
audience what it is you are offering them. Telling people you
sell the best widget and provide the best service is
meaningless - your audience must understand how their personal
or professional lives are going to be improved functionally,
emotionally, and socially. Most automobiles will get you were
you want to go (functional benefit), but a Mercedes gets you
there in style (emotional benefit) and displays to the world
that you are a success (social benefit). When was the last time
you saw a real estate agent drive around in a jalopy? As focused
on closing the sale as real estate agents are, they
instinctively know they must project a confident, comfortable,
successful professional image.
Knowledge: objective four is to provide your audience with the
ammunition they need to make the purchase. Your prospects need
to justify to themselves, their corporate superiors, or maybe
their spouses, their purchasing decision. Prospects must be
educated, informed, and enthused with the knowledge that your
company, product, or service is the right choice.
Behavior/Experience: objective five is the creation of a
corporate culture that matches your brand personality. If
prospects are frustrated or annoyed by their experience in
dealing with you, your website, or your email landing page,
then all the feel-good advertising in the world is wasted. The
customer experience of dealing with your company must match the
image you project.
Involvement: objective six is to evangelize your customers so
that they become involved in promoting your product, service,
or company to their friends and colleagues. People want to
show-off their intelligence, good taste, and business acumen.
If your product fulfills your customers' emotional and
psychological needs, they will become your best sales people.
Ability: objective seven is to education your customers so that
they can maximize the benefits from their purchase. Show
customers how to increase their ability to achieve, perform, or
excel by using your product or service. It is absolutely amazing
how many 'how to' books are sold by third parties to supplement
the dreadful instructions and manuals provided by
manufacturers. Think about the message you are sending
customers when they have to buy a book with the word "Dummies"
in the title, just to make your product work.
Opportunity: objective eight is to give customers the
opportunity to purchase you product or service either directly
or through an appropriate channel of distribution. Spending
money on advertising and promotion for things people can't get
is not much value. If prospects can't satisfy their needs when
they want to, you'll have missed your chance.
3. Presentation Vehicle
Old habits and ideas are hard to overcome. After all we are
creatures of habit, more accurately we are creatures of
pattern. We understand the world around us by absorbing
familiar patterns of action and behavior. Patterns make it
easier for us to deal with the complexities of modern life and
the demands of everyday work. This is a good thing as long as
these patterns serve our needs, but the world of marketing
communication has changed.
There is a new marketing paradigm that needs to be accepted and
new sets of behavior patterns that need to be acknowledged.
There was a time when you used the phone book to lookup phone
numbers and the local newspaper to find what movies were
playing; but today, the first place people go is the Internet.
Things have changed and businesses have to change with the
times.
Sure every business has a website, that's a given, but most
websites are nothing more than digital versions of company
brochures or catalogues that have been pushed and pulled out of
shape by SEO consultants selling the latest miracle marketing
cure - more traffic. Never mind the appropriateness of the
traffic, or the relevancy of the bloated SEO-massaged content,
or the meaningfulness of the marketing message. Traffic by
itself will not win the day or get you where you want to be -
this is nothing more than the same old shotgun volume broadcast
approach that we know doesn't work for most companies.
The real issue here is presenting relevant, meaningful,
compelling, informative, memorable material on your websites
and landing pages to an interested audience that actually cares
what you have to say - just make sure you say something
worthwhile.
So how do we do it? The answer is Web-based multimedia
presentations. Now let's be clear what we are not talking
about: we are not talking about adding meaningless background
music or irritating banner animations to your site. What we are
talking about is using audio and video to present information
that establishes your expertise, creates your brand
personality, and delivers your marketing message so it sticks
in the minds of your audience.
4. Information Format
Your Web-marketing campaign should consist of a variety of
information vehicles that each build on one another, creating
the image and delivering the information that will ultimately
lead to a relationship.
Your Web-marketing campaign should be aimed at achieving more
than just a sale; it should be aimed at creating a satisfied
customer who will promote your company through word-of-mouth.
To achieve this end you must deliver a variety of information
to potential clients; information that attracts attention,
narrows decisions, instructs usage, and promotes involvement.
Information as entertainment: when you want to establish a
personality or image, your audio or video presentation should
have some entertainment element. This entertainment element
could be in the character of the presenter, the script or
dialog being presented, or merely the style and panache of the
voice-over announcer or on-screen actor.
Information as knowledge: there used to be a Buffalo-based
clothing retailer that featured the slogan, 'an educated
consumer is our best customer." They never had a sale, but all
their clothes were discounted the same way on a sliding scale
based on how long the merchandise was in inventory. All their
advertisements explained their policy in clear, concise terms.
They understood, that if customers know and trust their policy
they would have confidence that they were buying from a
legitimate retailer at a legitimate price.
Information as instruction: we live in a very complex world
where products and services are increasingly complicated. If we
want customers to take the leap of faith and buy our merchandise
and hopefully upgrade to bigger, better, more expensive
versions, then customers must understand how to use the product
and also how to maximize the promised benefits from their
purchase. Teaching people how to take better photographs with
the camera you sell is a far better sales tactic that promoting
an extra feature they will never use.
Information as involvement: we all know word-of-mouth is the
best form of advertising. Getting your Web-audience involved in
your campaigns through the use of contests, surveys, and
interactive entertainments are only a few ways to get them
involved. But the best way to get people involved in
evangelizing your product is to provide an experience that
echoes their psychological, emotional, and socio-cultural
aspirations.
Information as promotion: let's face facts, the vast majority
of website visitors are jaded and cynical and hypersensitive to
unscrupulous online businesses. Most of your Web-audience puts
you right next to politicians and used car salesman in the
trust department. You are not going to overcome this lack of
confidence with a website that smacks of high pressure or
alternatively a website that bores people. Present your offer
using real people delivering a well crafted message that
reflects your company persona and inspires confidence rather
than puts out danger signals.
5. Marketing Venue
The Web's multimedia capability has often been equated to an
egalitarian form of television, where every company has a shot
at attracting an audience without the high cost of buying
airtime, but like television it is the programs people are
attracted to, not the commercials. If your website is nothing
more than a commercial your visitors will hyperlink themselves
away from your site at warp speed.
If we equate the new multimedia Web to television, we must
construct our websites as if they were programs, not brochures.
An excellent example of this new style website is the Ford Motor
Company's 'Bold Moves' site (http://www.FordBoldMoves.com).
Your email marketing and Adword campaigns are the equivalent of
program teasers, attracting people to your main site, campaign
micro-site, or landing page based on a content hook and
promise.
6. Achievable Expectations
We are all concerned about ROI but you cannot expect
instantaneous results. Websites are long-term investments that
must be continually tweaked to conform to your long-range
strategic objectives. You must have realistic achievable
expectations: new leads, customer inquiries, information
requests, newsletter sign-ups, and even complaints. You cannot
determine the value of your site based on direct sales alone.
If you are not achieving adequate results, then it's time you
rethought your website strategy in terms of it's multimedia
content and program potential.

NO matter what business you are trying to build online, you will
need sales leads if you are ever going to make sales, and sales
leads are what you are trying to generate if you are marketing on
the internet. In order to survive, any web site needs a steady
flow of qualified leads.
The aim of any lead generation campaign is to build your mailing
list. Internet marketers often say "the money is in the list",
which is totally true. A list of responsive buying customers that
trust you is worth its weight in gold!
While spam filtering has lessened the impact of email marketing,
it's still a viable means to getting your sales messages out
there. In theory, email is marketing is free, although of course
its costs you in terms of your time. The theory behind email
marketing is that by using a "hook" such as a free product or
some other incentive, you can "funnel" interested parties onto
specific products and services.
When you consider generating leads via an email campaign there
are basically three avenues you can explore: email signatures,
joint ventures and safe lists. One word of warning though, and
that is avoid spam at all cost, one spam complaint can seriously
damage your online business. You should familiarize yourself with
the laws concerning spam, and at the very least ensure you
include a un-subscription link in ALL your marketing emails. Due
to spam, it is advisable that you avoid buying leads, no matter
how reputable the company, buying leads can easily lead to a spam
complaint, you have been warned!
In its simplest form, email marketing is a matter of putting a
signature in all your emails that contains a link to your main
product.
If you are looking to vastly increase your list quickly then a
joint venture (JV) may well be the key you need. In its simplest
form, in a JV you supply the product and a fellow marketer
supplies the leads and you share the profits. Hopefully, you will
then get the emails of your fellow marketer's customers, so you
can then mail them with further offers.
When considering a joint venture there are many considerations
you have to think about, but the main one, before you consider
contacting anyone about mailing to their list, is "what's in it
for THEM", not "what's in it for me". NEVER write to a fellow
marketer unless you can offer them something of value in return
for their help, and that is not necessarily just a share of the
profits, be inventive!
Finally you have safe lists. A safe list is a list of people that
have agreed to receive marketing emails in return for being able
to send their own marketing email. The value of this form of
marketing has never been that good. After all you are trying to
sell to people who are only interested in selling to you!
You can use pay per click advertising such as overture or Goggle
adwords to advertise your site and draw in interested leads.
One other highly effective way of generating interested leads is
posting in forums that are related to your area of business.
Include a link to your site in your signature and people
interested in your sphere of business will often click it if your
forum post was interesting.
Three other popular sales lead generation techniques are
submitting articles to ezine publishers and article directories,
press releases and testimonials for products in your target
market.
No matter what lead generation technique you employ you will need
a way to capture your leads email address when they arrive at
your site.
The traditional method has been to use a pop up or pop under
which contains some incentive to get someone to sign up. With the
invention of pop up stoppers their effectiveness has dwindled and
therefore unstoppable pop ups (also know as hover ads or slide in
ads) have evolved. This new generation of pop ups are built into
your webpage and as such cannot be stopped. Simply do a search on
Goggle for "unstoppable pop up" and you are sure to find a
software solution to produce these types of pop ups for you.
The other alternative is to use what is called a "name squeeze
page".
In essence a name squeeze page is a web page whose sole purpose
is to capture an email address.
They generally contain a small amount of information about the
product or service you are selling as a "teaser" for the reader
and will contain a sign up form, with a message like "to find out
more simply fill in the form to be immediately directed to
further details on this amazing product".
A name squeeze page not only helps build your list, this
information can also be used with certain software to help
personalize your site for your visitor, a technique that has been
shown to increase sales. Again, simply do a search for name
squeeze page generators.
No matter how you generate sales leads there is one thing always
to bear in mind, and that is to be effective your leads must be
in your targeted market. If, for example, you are selling
internet marketing products, then it's no use advertising on a
site that is all about scuba diving!
When you start to build your online business, ensure you include
a well thought out sales lead generation strategy from the
beginning. Do not make it an afterthought; this should be in
place from the very beginning if you want your business to be a
success.

I was just thinking about something I'd like to share with you, and hopefully it'll give you something to think about as well. I was remembering when I took a motorcycle riding safety class when I was 23 years old. I had no previous riding experience, aside from a bit of mountain biking with a 21-speed, and I figured it wouldn't be too much different going from that to a motorcycle.
Yes, it gives me slight grin now, too. Boy was it was crazy, I couldn't have been more wrong! I imagined myself just climbing on and riding off into the sunset like a pro. But when the time came and I actually sat on the bike for the first time and rode a few hundred feet, it was quite an eye-opener, to say the least. I felt like I was 15 years old again, with a driving permit in my wallet and my mom in the passenger seat.
Those familiar emotions were running through me again -- apprehension, confusion, excitement and fear -- only this time I had more life-experience under my belt to better manage them all.Sure, having driven a manual transmission car for many years did help control the motorcycle, but it was still pretty foreign. But with time, practice, and making plenty of mistakes, I got pretty good at it. Eventually, it became second nature.
And even now, after all the experience I've gained, I'm planning on taking an advanced riders safety course. This reminds me of internet marketing. Maybe you are just starting your first online business, or maybe you are on to your second or third and are now marketing those. Where ever you are at, the amount of business experience you have will vary from most everyone else; but here's a fact no matter how long you've been doing it: if you don't practice internet marketing, it will never get any easier.
Internet marketing is just like learning to ride a motorcycle or drive a car. Before actually getting into the thick of it, people may tell you "Oh, it's so easy!" or "All you have to know is this, that's it." Even when you think about the steps and procedures beforehand, you can convince yourself that you have it all planned out and it'll go off without a hitch. But once you actually do it, you get that much needed reality check.
Internet marketing isn't something you can just "do" and get right the first time around. Yes, it is important to take advice from professionals you trust and who are where you want to be, and to read their eBooks and what not. But it is much more important to actually get out there and do it yourself. Guru's can point they way, but they can't give you experience. To be successful at internet marketing, it takes focus, concentration, and especially practice. Just like using a clutch, you will mess up your marketing.
You may gun it, and offer your customers a product that would've sold better had you waited. You might pick a product you are not really qualified to market. Whatever it is, be it headlines, sales copy, product placement -- you will get it wrong some of the time. But the more you practice marketing, the more you read about people who are doing it correctly and effectively, the more you write and rewrite, the better you will get.
Eventually, you will develop a "sixth-sense" of what is good or bad -- marketing will become second nature to you. Most people are looking for the easy way out. That's why "get-rich quick" schemes are selling so well (and ruining it for us legitimate netizens, damn it!). But those people never reach their ultimate goals, because there is no legitimate, fool-proof quick way -- especially one where you can keep your conscience clean! All those who are determined to succeed, who try and try again and do not stop despite all the obstacles in their path -- those are the ones that will succeed, guaranteed.
You can do anything you want in life; no one can stop you but you, and this does include financial independence. Ask yourself what you really want out of life. Would you rather catch the new episode of 'Friends,' or spend time strengthening your sales copy? It's easy to get distracted, but stick to your guns and re-do it for the tenth time. Just remember, for every time you get something wrong, you are that much closer to getting it right.
