Kalena has been marketing web sites online since 1996 and blogging about search since 2002. She had her first SEO success in the mid 1990’s when she managed to push her employer’s web site to the very top of AltaVista, resulting in a $1m joint venture with a company who noticed it from the other side of the world.

Kalena co-founded Search Engine College in 2004, never dreaming it would eventually attract students from 62 countries worldwide. As well as being Co-Founder of Search Engine College, Kalena is Director of Studies and Tutor for all SEO and PPC courses. Her previous roles have included SEO Manager for a web development firm, Public Relations consultant, Freelance web site designer, Marketing Manager for a computer systems firm and five years as Public Relations Advisor to the Royal Thai Government.

Kalena is a Full Member of the Institute of IT Professionals and travels throughout New Zealand giving Internet Marketing training workshops on their behalf.

As well as presenting at various global marketing conferences and training events, Kalena writes a regular column for Site Pro News, as well as an agony aunt style search engine advice blog called Ask Kalena. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Newcastle and is a self-confessed Twitter addict.

Hired by such companies as Unisys and Verticalnet, Kim has worked as a User Interface Engineer and eventually moved into the Quality Assurance Software Testing field, where it was her job to test and develop the methodology for in-house web site usability. During the dot-com crash of 2001, Kim was laid off and within 6 hours was hired by a company seeking a sub-contractor to test and project manage their proprietary Internet application for a large firm.

This allowed her to expand services and work from a home office full-time. In August 2002 the old Cre8pc club was changed to Cre8asiteForums, where it quickly became one of the leading web design forums on the Internet and the first to begin spreading the importance of web site usability.

Today, Kim is focused solely on usability and user interface web site testing using the cognitive walkthrough and heuristic evaluation methodologies.
