By Trey Thomas If you own, run or maintain an Internet business, you probably need articles to provide you with content for your website. Users are always looking for information and if your site can Articles provide many benefits, but perhaps the most important thing they do is to place your site high in page rankings for search engines. This happens because your articles have keywords in them that are relevant to your site. Therefore, when someone does a search for the information they're looking for, your site is more likely to come up if you use relevant keywords. In addition, articles are a way to link your site to another site or newsletter. Visitors appreciate quality content, and if you have it, you are much more likely to be asked to link your site to many other sites, increasing your exposure. This also increases confidence and trust levels in your company and web site, which drives more customers and traffic to you. If your site has quality articles, it's also likely to get more exposure because visitors to your site will tell their friends and family to visit your site for the information you provide. This drives more traffic to your site and in addition, provides you bigger sales of whatever product you're selling because those who visit your site trust and believe in you. Your products and services will also be much easier to sell when customers know that you are experienced with your particular area of expertise and know what you're talking about. In short, articles are very important to your site and to your business. You need them to keep ahead of the game and in addition, you need to keep providing new ones. One dilemma, though, is that many people don't like writing articles. Most web site owners would rather spend their time on their business. Unless your company is large, you probably don't have the necessary resources to have a pool of writers specific to your company. In addition, plagiarizing or copying other articles is frowned upon as well. Also, this is illegal, and it can definitely get you into trouble. At the very least, it puts you in a bad light and will make your customers question your honesty if they find that plagiarism existing on your site. Therefore, what are your other options? You might not know that you can actually get free articles. These articles exist in the public domain and here, articles are available without fear of breaking copyright law. Public domain articles are given freely to the public for their use. You can do whatever you want with them. You can place them on your site without giving credit to the original author or authors, and although it makes you look very professional (and, in fact, is probably the most ethical thing to do) to name the original author rather than taking credit for it yourself, you Of course, with public domain articles, your competitors will have access to those articles as well. Therefore, readers will probably instantly know that these articles are not yours, since they've seen them in various other places. In this case, simply rewriting them to make them original is a little bit easier than developing an article from scratch, but still provides you with original content. Another bonus of rewriting articles is that you can make sure you optimize them for keywords particular to your site, which the original article or articles probably will not have. In short, even with public domain articles, rewriting them to make them original is the best way to go. It also is a good idea to write your own original content. If you truly cannot write for yourself, you can hire a freelance writer or writers to do that for you for relatively little expense. The investment you make in these articles is worthwhile because you hold copyrights to them and can use them in any way you wish. You'll also be able to optimize them for keywords right from the start. Simply put, if articles build your business, you'll likely not find them as distasteful to write as you might have at the beginning, before they drew traffic your site and therefore made your business more successful because of them. But applied to affiliate marketing it is the easiest way to make money online. And best of all, you can do it without spending a dime using only free tools available online. This is all you will need : - A free keyword research tool, Do a quick search on your favorite search engine and you will find these free tools very easily. Quick cash blue print : 1 - Keyword research : Using your keyword research tool, search for low competition keywords. Those are keywords that have at least 300 searches a month and that have less than 5000 competing pages in Google (when entered between quotation marks like this "keyword"). Try to find 5 to 10 good keywords related to the same topic. The idea is to focus on keywords for which you can get a first page ranking in Google, Msn and Yahoo. Hint : If you have no idea of which market to target, start by checking popular phrases like: how to, purchase, get rid of, help, cure, tips, etc. 2 - Find a digital product to promote Go to Clickbank.com and find a product related to your topic. Choose one that pays at least $15 to $20. Generate your affiliate link and write it down or save it in a text file on your computer. 3 - Article writing : Write an informative article (approximately 400 words) focused on each of your keywords. Put your keyword in the title and in the first and last paragraph of your article. Also sprinkle it throughout your copy. You can also throw in a few other keywords related to your topic. This will help you rank well. Most important, write a great bio box that will make people want to learn more and click on the link to your blog. Put your keyword in your bio box as an anchor text link to your blog. 4 - Set up your blog. More and more article directories will not let you put your affiliate link in your bio box. So your blog is going to be your landing page. The idea here is to put up a simple blog that will presell(not sell) your product and make people click on your Clickbank affiliate link to go to the sales page. Hint : set up a blog for every product you promote and give it a keyword focused name. 5 - Submit your articles to article directories. You will need to find article directories with a PR of 5 or more. These are the ones Google likes and it will help you get a first page ranking in the search engines and drive tons of free traffic to your blog. Post one article a day on each article directory and do not post the exact same article to more than one directory. Hint : Your best choice is Ezinearticles.com. You will need good quality articles, but it is the most powerful directory online. Alternatively you can use Goarticles.com. 6 - Rinse and repeat ! Article marketing is a game of numbers. The more articles your submit, the more money you will earn. But every product is not going to be a winner. Some will do well, some will not. So test a new product every week putting up 5 to 10 focused articles each time. That is all there is to it. This may seem to good to be true, but it really does work. Off course it will take a couple of weeks for money to start rolling in on a regular basis but the magic of this method is that once you write a money making article it will generate residual income for months and maybe even years -- without ever costing you a single dime. Labels: Affiliate Marketing, Article Writing By Christos Varsamis Article Marketing is by far the most reliable long term internet marketing strategy for one primary reason. It provides web content which is the reason millions of users worldwide surf the internet daily. They seek for information. Christos Varsamis is the Creator & Publisher of http://www.proarticlesbiz.com Labels: Article Writing, Internet Marketing By Jo Han Mok This has to be one of the "best" ways to generate sales. Controversy creates two types of interest. Negative and positive. And both forms of interest work together to make you profits. How exactly? Well, let's do a quick example. Person N and Person P. Person P loves what you have written and can directly relate to what you have said. Person N on the other hand thinks you're an obnoxious creep full of insane beliefs. Both Person P and Person N comment on your writing. They read each others comments and they are inflamed by those comments. So, they begin a back and forth battle of words based entirely on what you had to say! Now comes Person S, Person V, and Person C. They add their two cents and take sides of who's right and who's wrong. Then come more comments. And more, and more. And if you're selling something that expands on your initial post, you'll get both those that hate what you had to say, and love it, buying your product. The negative folks will want further proof that you're a total moron while the positive folks will want to learn more about what you are teaching, or saying. Every single day, millions of folks hop onto the internet and have something to say. Most likely they'll do this through writing. Whether it's through an article, an email, or a blog. The "trick" is to make what you discuss controversial through your writings. Don't be "Boring". That won't do a thing for you. The essence of creating controversy is by using passion. If you've had a bad experience with another person, tell people about it. If you really love a particular product, or person, tell people about it. But be sure that your writings can convey the passion that you feel whether it's negative or positive. If you are effectively creating controversy through your writings, most people that read it will either love what you have to say or hate it. Either way, they'll "Talk About It". And if you give them a chance to communicate how they feel about it, this will lead to more profits in your pockets! But, in order to use controversy you have to be willing to take a stand on a certain topic. No "wishy-washy" comments will do. If you make people angry, "Good"! But don't back down on your opinions though. That defeats the purpose of using this tactic completely. If some people don't like what you're saying, who cares?? At least you had the guts to stand up for what you believe and say it. And that's the point that will come across to those that love your writings. I "Know For A Fact" this works. Jason Cain is a living example of this dirty trick. He uses controversy in his writings and makes immense profits from the dust he stirs up. Some folks hate him. Some folks love him. The love-hate factor doesn't really matter though. What DOES matter is that people are reading what he has to say. And they are 'Listening'. And, they are BUYING. Another terrific example is a fellow by the name of Stuart Halpryn. He creates controversy through the amount of money he charges for products he sells. He lets his readers know that he is directly responsible for pissing other marketers off by charging extremely low prices for their products to his customers. And it works! He's earning good money from using controversy The whole idea of this tactic is to speak your mind, send off a spark, and watch it build into a roaring flame About the Author: Jo Han Mok is a #1 bestselling author and frequent featured speaker at Internet Marketing bootcamps and conferences. A good tutorial is one that is unique in some respect and must contain valuable information or your reader/s will unsubscribe. There are thousands of free tutorials on how to create an ezine, email marketing etc so brainstorm for something unique that represents your site, your product, or a specific skill you can teach people. Always keep in mind that the aim of any tutorial course is to teach, inform and provide quality information of interest for your target audience through the sharing of your knowledge on subjects you are familiar with. These courses *can* be invaluable for pre-selling your readers on your products if they are done right. Developing your course Decide on your subject then create a lesson plan. Begin by making a list of topics and then depending on the number of topics separate each into your individual course lessons. For example: five topics become five lessons, ten topics ten lessons and so on. Follow the same format for each lesson using plenty of white space to make it easy for people to go back and find information they may like to review again. In the first lesson outline the course contents and what they can hope to learn during the course of your lessons. Give each lesson a number. Give each lesson a title. Then follow with the actual lesson. Throughout your course you can refer to your product/s and how it can help solve a problem within the context of the topic under discussion. Never however, use your course for the blatant advertising of your products and services or it will be a quick click on the un-subscribe button. At the end of each lesson give highlights of what to expect in the next lesson. Keep it interesting so subscribers will look forward to the arrival of the next installment. Once you have completed your written course the next step is to sign up for a follow-up auto responder capable of delivering your lessons at pre-determined intervals. This can be every day, or perhaps every second day for as many days required. Follow the instructions given with your autoresponder and do a trial test to ensure that the delivery options are set correctly. Next place your course information on your web site with your course description and the mailto: link to your auto-responder. After mastering this type of auto-responder course consider providing workshops via email or. Self-learning training courses delivered via email These courses are structured the same way as offline correspondence courses and tend to do well year in and year out as the market for the course information always constantly replenishes itself. Self-learning training courses require structured lesson plans, a course outline and set objectives for the knowledge the student can expect to gain from the course. Often this type of course includes a self-knowledge quiz at the end of each lesson for self-evaluation purposes by the student of how well they have understood of the current lessons content. Popular topics include. Business and money making courses "How to"... Just about anything that can be adapted for delivery via auto-responder that will provide people with the information and knowledge they are seeking. Develop a prospectus for interested students to download (PDF format gives a more professional look) then create a course outline and sign-up enrolment form page at your web site. Set your auto-responder to automatically deliver lesson installments to each of your paying students at weekly or fortnightly intervals. Tip: Many students like recieving the whole course upon signup. As an alternative offer the course in PDF ebook format. Making this option available will increase the number of student enrolments. Note: Training courses contain no advertising for products or services - they are the product. Many "how to" books can be adapted or broken down into course lessons and presented in this way providing an extra source of income for your business (or as a business in itself) or to be sold offline via direct mail to capture both the online and offline markets. If you have already optimized your website, then you know what keywords to include in your releases. However, if you are starting from scratch, it is important to do some keyword research. There are some decent free keyword research tools, like the stripped down version of Wordtracker, the one from SEO Company and Google AdWords. Look for keywords that have the highest volume and the least competition. For instance, when we launched AccessURP, we searched for keywords that would bring people looking for commercial real estate in Charlotte, NC to the site. We used several variations of that phrase in our pay-per-click ads, in our search engine optimization, and in our news releases. Anchor's Away. Use anchor text in your releases. You'll notice in the news release how I anchored the phrase commercial real estate. This provides an important backlink using keywords. How is that possible? Become a Search Engine All-You-Can-Eat Buffet!! I can hear you out there.. "Yeah, sure!" Well, it's not that difficult of a methodology really. All you have to do is think differently than all the hype, amateur Web designers and unscrupulous marketing "gurus" have led you to believe about how getting found works. First off, what search engines like is fresh content and lots of it; yummy! That's the fuel for their fire so to speak. So it goes without saying that if you keep adding new content on a regular basis that will encourage search engines to visit your site because you'll have a fresh buffet of tempting entrées. How do search engines know you have new content? Certainly not by osmosis! Your site will be like Mama's house on a Sunday afternoon. You know what I mean; dinner smells so good everyone in the house can't wait to get a plateful! That's how it goes with search engines and content. If you don't have savory content-why should search engines visit you and give you higher rankings over those who serve up a delicious all-you-can-eat Sunday dinner? The answer is they don't. The "build it and they will come" way of thinking does not apply to Web sites in this day and age, so everyone needs to wash that concept right out of their hair. All it takes is for you to be prepared to mix, cook and serve. Mix up a new article, cook it to perfection and serve it to the hungry search engines! That's not too much to ask to succeed online is it? If it is, well, maybe you should reconsider your online endeavors. If you don't want to make these efforts, just forget about achieving no charge organic/natural listings. You'll never rank anywhere near the top so determine your PayPerClick budget and go setup your campaign straight away. Now let's setup your buffet! Start a blog that you post to continually and submit it to all the blog directories. Make sure your blog offers a subscribe feature so visitors get notified by e-mail when you enter a new post. Onliners visit your blog and then follow the links to the scrumptious new articles on your site. They like your articles and link to them or post them on their site with a link to yours. Incoming links to your site; lip smacking good! You also offer an RSS feed of your top articles to get the word out. You add your new articles to your site map. Google checks for your site map XML file and updates its index with your freshly baked content. You add your seasoned articles to all the article banks that have popped up in the last year or so-more delectable links to your site! Can you see what is happening? We are creating a feeding frenzy! This interactive medium called the Web is now more interactive than ever. At first when it all began, "interactive" meant some flashing this or moving that. Now interactive means just that; you need to interact and be involved by using all these tools or you'll be left in the dumpster by those who do. One thing is sure; chasing search engine algorithms is a futile effort at best. But when you have the nourishment they want, tasty content, search engines are hungry little bots and it's hard to keep them away. Food for thought? You bet! Articles are the core of information on the net, whether they are objective or subjective about any issue. Search engines were built to provide content and actually the struggle was to provide the most relevant web content according to the search terms the user provides.
Article Marketing is a relative new internet marketing industry with great potential. However many pitfalls and misunderstandings have been released lately. That was expected because it's a market principal, whenever there is growth and opportunity, "opportunists" and "scammers" step in.
The first subject is the article submission software and article automation procedures of any kind. The promises sound great. Massive submissions to article directories with push button software solutions. As tempting as it may seem, it is too good to be true. That happens because the algorithms the huge search engines corporations developed are so advanced that they detect any instant massive growth of links of any website. They are programmed to consider this "growth" as unnatural and then take precautions. These precautions could be a downgrade on search engine results for the spamming website or ban it completely form the search engines.
In simple words do not try to fool search engines giants like Google for example. Their spam filters are extremely advanced. Even if you succeed the spamming temporarily you will be discovered sooner or later and if you have a serious online business you jeopardize it.
The same applies to instant and massive web content growth of the website. For example if you had a website with five sub WebPages and after 3 days you have 2000 web pages. Google spam filters will detect it again as an unnatural web content growth of your website and proceed to the according measures. You must realize that search engines will do anything to protect the quality of their search results because this will bring targeted traffic and consequently the advertisers. You must grow your website and internet exposure step by step. This way you will gain long turn results and you will not be afraid of Google's frequently algorithm's alterations because you follow the rules.
The next subject is the PLR industry (Private Label Articles). Since most of the people are not writers or they despise writing, there comes the PLR solution which is monthly service (most of the cases) providing a number of articles each month to the subscriber. These articles are written by ghost writers and provided to hundreds of paying subscribers. It seems ideal but it's not.
The spam filters are here too and focus on duplicated content. The same article by dozens of websites will not give you any advantage. What you can do is to modify them or by hand (which
is time consuming) or with using some of the anti-duplicate content software titles. But there relies a problem. Most of these software titles do modify the articles for search engines but it's not readable by the users. So you must be careful and check constantly what the PLR software provides and how alters the article.
The last subject relates with the article directories which have been increased massively the last two years. Should you consider submitting your article to 500 article directories without examining the quality of each one, or you should improve the quality of your article and submit it to qualitative ones?
The second case is more effective in the long run because you maximize your possibilities to have your article published to a huge online publication with thousands of unique visitors daily. In that way you gain massive exposure and most important credibility to your industry.
Finally the conclusion of the above is that shortcuts will not help you. The future on web content industry belongs to people who are not afraid to write (they don't have to be novelists) and produce Unique content. The entrepreneurs who grasp the value of unique content and apply it to their marketing efforts will definitely gain the advantage.

several years that I've been using article marketing to boost traffic to my Web sites.
When using other people's articles as inspiration for your own - a very common practice among professional writers - look at the article for it's structure and not necessarily the words
themselves. For instance, I use templates to quickly write my articles. I use various types of templates, but there are hundreds out there. So just look for the template - or the structure - of the article and swipe that. After all, structure isn't copyrighted, but the writer's words are.
Another great way to make your articles original is to take pieces of information from a variety of sources and industries. I'm always on the lookout for good ideas, inspiring headlines, and some motivational quotes, which can set off a flood of article content - giving me five to 10 articles all at once. Start holding on to junk mail, interesting ezines and quotes. When you're looking for advice for your articles, turn to these sources to give you just the boost you need.
Some writers just give me the greatest rush of information. No matter how many times I read their books and listen to their pod casts I seem to get something new from what they have to
say. Who puts wind in your sails? Whoever it is, there's no crime in taking bits of pieces of their concepts and putting your own spin on them. Chances are, they did the same thing with their mentors/favorite authors.
whatever it is he or she has said. You can also completely agree and offer a case study of exactly why you agree with what the author said. Attributing information to the original author silences all plagiarism critics.

Ezine Articles have been around since the early 80's, and the
group Cult of the Dead Cow claims to have published the first
one in 1984. No matter who was the first to create it, Ezine
articles have become a part of everyday web hosting, designing,
and promotion. Ezine articles are a way to focus on specific
content and keywords.
The benefits of Ezine Articles are numerous to say the least;
however, the top Pros make your work and research all worth the
while. Traffic the proper Ezine articles can generate enough
visitors to make your web page a success, while improper
content, repetitiveness, and missing links can spell disaster
for any on-line business. Making sure that all of your content
is accurate and up to date can be tedious but a necessary part
of maintaining a successful site.
What can go wrong with Ezine articles, you would think what
cons can there possibly be on something that if you look in the
right spots you can get for free, but there are a few. The
first being the content of the article, is it accurate, current
and informative? If not then this can cause serious problems
such as someone marking your site as an unreliable source. The
safety net for this is the fact that the articles are written by
other authors and can be stated one point of view. Another
major con is how fast others generate new articles, the web
content changes daily and unless you have catchy headlines and
SEO Articles then you can be left behind.
Many Ezine articles free as long as you follow basic guidelines
when using them in either your website or emails. First, you
must leave where the article came from in the article and not
change any part of the source. You may do minor editing but
nothing major that can change the articles content, also
copying only parts or just a few lines is illegal as well.
Most times, you must inform the original host of the Article
where you are putting the Ezine Article, or if it is part of a
solicited email list then a forward of your email should work.
Not all require notification however; it is good business sense
and ethnics to contact them. Ezine articles can be user
friendly as long as you remember that the information has to be
accurate, you keep the source of the article in it, and you
follow the copyright guidelines. However finding the right
article for your web page can be a difficult task. Don't give
up though, with patients and the right Keywords, and the web
you are sure to find the right article for you.

Creating successful website articles takes a sharp marketing
mind. It also requires top-notch writing skills. So, what
happens if you just don't have everything it takes to make your
website a success?
turn a profit. Free article content is available on a number of
directories, and is a valid service for those who lack the time
or talents to write their own articles. It can also be a
feasible option for those who have just started working as an
affiliate for several companies, but lack the funding required
to build niche websites to entice visitors.
running a website on a minimal budget. It is not, however, a
good choice for effectively building your website or creating
revenue. There are a number of ways that free article content
can actually be detrimental to your business-building efforts.
If your website contains the exact duplicated content as other
sites, search engines will tend to skip over it. The more sites
that share your free article content, the less likely it will be
that you achieve good search engine rankings. It is essential
that your website receives good search engine rankings in order
to entice visitors to click on your affiliate links. If you
cannot get visitors, you will never make a profit. Your first
priority should be to work on the search engine optimization of
your site so that you will eventually be high enough to ensure a
good number of customers.
Boosting your site high on search engine result pages and
acquiring visitors is hard work, but it is unfortunately only
half of the battle. You must be able to convince those visitors
to click on your affiliate links. If your visitors see the same
free article content that they have already seen on a multitude
of sites, they'll be less likely to click on your links. People
want to see unique perspectives, and tend to purchase goods or
hire services from those they view as subject experts. If your
content is simply a duplication of the same material on other
sites, you'll be exposed as someone who falls back on another
person's efforts. Your readers may view you as not knowing what
you're talking about, and you'll lose credibility as being
knowledgeable about your product recommendations. This will
reduce the number of website visitors who will be willing to
click through and spend money.
Most free article content is only given to you if you agree to
place the author's byline under the article. Failure to follow
the stipulated rules can bring penalties. Most author bylines
include website links, so this poses another problem. If the
article is especially intriguing, there is the strong
possibility that the reader may click on the author's byline
link rather than your affiliate links. Of course, authors only
contribute free article content as a means to expose their own
names and links to the public eye. In using this type of
content, you may be shooting yourself in the foot and losing
possible profitable website visitors.
Using free article content is a quick and easy way to pad your
site with material, but it can be detrimental to your financial
goals. Novice website owners often find it the only option; but
if you have the funds available you are much better off hiring
a writer to prepare original material. Another option is to
write your own articles, begin making a profit, and then spend
the resources on a professional writer.
service from someone they deem to be an expert. Using free

distributors have mechanisms in place to prevent the publication
of both pieces. Article distributors do not do this to harm your
business; in fact, these limits are in place to protect your
career. If you take the time to write an informative and helpful

not want someone plagiarizing your work. This is why article

proportional to the demand for that type of article. Higher
quality articles will prove more valuable to webmasters looking
to reprint articles. Perfect spelling and grammar are requisite
in order to ensure the widest syndication possible. Webmasters
will be more inclined to reprint well-researched and well-written
articles. Most articles are not of the highest quality, so a
higher quality article will stand out significantly.
a resource box. The goal of article writing should be to make
the article itself interesting. An interesting article can be
syndicated on websites with high traffic and PageRank. Increasing
article syndication will cause the link in the resource box to be
copied by many Web sites.
webmasters will find that quality content articles will result
in an immediate traffic increase to a site. An article that is
appealing to readers will naturally attract a large readership.
The more readers an article has, the more likely those readers
are to click on the link in the resource box.
article's syndication is to submit articles to related sites. The
best syndications and links come from quality sites in a specific
niche, not simply article banks. For example, there are many Web
sites that will only accept business-related articles. Any
webmaster of a business-related website looking to build link
popularity should write an article concerning business and submit
it to these sites. Potentially, other business sites could take
note of a high quality business article and syndicate it on their
sites (which are all related under the unique subject of
business). Doing this will build topically related links which
can improve a Web site's search engine rankings dramatically.
scroll down to the resource box, or inspire webmasters to reprint
the article on their Web site. The best way to draw a wide
variety of readers is to have a compelling title. Catchy titles
and sometimes even controversial titles can draw more readers.
Coupling a compelling title with a high quality article is an
excellent way to attract readers specifically looking for
articles to syndicate.
focused on a specific subject, an article about an interesting
element of that subject will be syndicated more than a general
article. For example, there may be hundreds of available articles
about mortgage refinancing, but how many articles focus on ways
financial advisors will try to manipulate someone seeking to
refinance?
There are many Web sites that have large lists of article sites
that accept submissions. A good technique is to submit articles
to all of the article sites in a list and check later to see if
those articles have been syndicated. Searching for the title of
the article submitted in quotations on Google will show where
exactly it has been reprinted. Backlink searches on MSN and
Yahoo! can also be helpful. Building a solid list of verified
article sites can help maximize article syndication and also
time efficiency.
shy away from e-mailing articles because it is more time
consuming and often involves the creation of a biography and
picture submission. E-mail submission article sites however are
often more inclined to only reprint articles of high quality, and
thus these types of sites' articles are often widely syndicated.
The anchor text and link destination of the links in the articles
should be varied. Varying anchor text will help avoid penalties
in search engine rankings and create higher-value links. Often
changing the resource box after submitting to each site proves
beneficial. An article about dogs with the anchor text "dogs"
should be varied with anchor text like "puppies" for the other
article submissions. Using technology such as latent semantic
analysis, search engines will notice "dog" and "puppy" as related
words, but will not penalize the site for having unnatural links
(e.g., if all of the links used "dog" as anchor text). This same
effect can be achieved by varying the link target. Linking the
first half of the article submissions to page A, and the second
half to page B will avoid penalties from search engines like
Google. Articles are a proven way to get links, but if a new site
suddenly acquires 100 links to the same place in a short time,
search engines might penalize it.
topically related sites. The more effort and care given to an
article that is submitted, the more syndication potential an
article has. Compelling titles, high-quality content, and
interesting topics will all improve the syndication of an
article. Varying backlink text and destinations can also help
avoid heavy penalties from search engines. Some SEOs believe that only traditional directory submissions and link swapping are effective methods of building links. I, however, am a firm believer in the power of a well-written article to deliver a large number of topically related links to any fledgling site.

It's that time of year again ... pages of backpacks, notebooks
and back-to-school clothing fill every circular that hits your
mailbox. And you're off to the races ... the races being the
mall, plus every other store in between.
You're in the same spot you were last year this time, getting
ready to head off to work while your kids head off to school.
Back to hugging them goodbye in the morning and seeing them just long enough in the evening to say I love you and tuck them in.
Wouldn't it be fantastic if the easier schedule of the summer
lasted all year long? No more spending all your hours away from
your kids just to earn enough money to cover the essentials and
pay daycare?
Take it from someone who knows both sides of the deal here and
believe that there's no time like right now to make the
transition from the regular grind to working from home. As the
proud Mom of a 2005 honors graduate who's heading off to college soon, I know first hand what a major impact working from home has had on his success.
When my son was very young, I worked a full-time job away from
home, plus at least one part-time job on weekends. This meant
that my son was in daycare while I worked. As a single parent
who didn't receive child support (for years) though, I had no
other choice.
A few years later in the 1990's, I decided there had to be a
better way so I started a part-time medical billing service from
my home. This allowed me to give up the outside part-time job
and gave me the practical means of earning the much-needed
income. Best of all, it gave me the priceless opportunity to
take care of my son while I worked. I quickly saw that I was
onto something great here ... what a concept!
I moved from the east coast to California with my son in 1995
where my first full-time job was with a consulting firm co-owned
by a professional speaker. After some negotiations with my boss,
we entered into an agreement by which I would work mornings in
the office, leave to pick up my son from school in the
afternoons and work from home the rest of the day. It worked out incredibly well ... so well in fact, that in 2000, I decided to leave the consulting firm and start my own full-time home based
virtual assistant business.
Starting from scratch, I knew that gaining exposure for my
business was essential if I wanted to be successful in my new
venture. I also knew that traditional forms of marketing are
very expensive and quickly gobble up the profits, particularly
in the early stages. However, I also remembered a technique that
I used successfully for my former employer.
Besides being a consultant and professional speaker, he was also
an author, so his goals included increasing his number of
speaking engagements and selling more copies of his books. He
hoped to accomplish these goals by establishing himself as an
expert in his industry, which meant having his work published by
every major magazine in his field.
Committed to accomplishing his goals, he gave me a list of those
publications, so I drafted a query letter based on one of his
story ideas and e-mailed it to the editor of one of the
magazines. The editor responded in short notice and offered my
employer an article assignment. They published my boss's
article soon afterwards and featured it on the cover of the
magazine, producing an onslaught of calls to the office!
Writing and submitting that one article produced several paid
speaking engagements. This new marketing intrigue fascinated me, so I fine-tuned my article submission process creating logs and checklists, and within a few months, my boss had accomplished his goal of publication in every magazine on his list!
Even online and in-print publications we hadn't contacted began
calling and e-mailing in request of articles. The results of
writing and submitting articles was so successful that we put
other major marketing techniques on hold so my boss could travel
to his paid speaking engagements.
As my interest and experience grew in this area of marketing, I
knew that if it worked for my boss that it would work for other
professionals as well. Soon, I was earning over half my income
handling article submissions for other professionals.
Then I realized that if this technique worked for other
professionals that it would work for me too in building my own
business. And it has worked for me!
This same marketing technique, which I call marketing with
articles, has been the success behind my own business. I've
used it to expand my client base and build my virtual assistance
business into a solid income-generating company, which has
allowed me to work full-time at home for the past five years. As
my son is getting ready to leave for college, my personal goal
now is to help other parents be successful in achieving their
career goals while living the dream of staying home with their
children.
The concept of marketing with articles does not require a
professional writer. Anyone can be successful in building their
business and gaining credibility as an expert in their industry
or area of expertise by writing and submitting free reprint
articles to online and in-print publications. The key to
success is in reaching your target audience with resourceful
information that is valuable to them.
Editors of both online and in-print publications are in constant
demand of quality content for their readers. They have a
continuing need to publish content that appeals directly to
their target audience, which is where you come in. By writing
and submitting free reprint articles to publications that reach
readers in your market, you have the opportunity to establish
yourself as an expert and gain a generous amount of exposure for
your business.
True, you aren't earning money for actually writing the articles,
but you are earning a huge payoff here. Not only do you
establish your credibility as an expert in your industry or area
of expertise, but you earn significant exposure for yourself
and your business. Most editors will include your byline with
your articles, which gives you the opportunity to include your
name and contact information, plus the URL of your web site.
Readers come to recognize your name and relate it with certain
topics. The more articles you write and submit, the more
exposure you gain!
The marketing with articles technique helped turn my dream of
working from home full-time into a precious reality that has
made a positive impact for both my son and me. As he goes off to
college, he'll be leaving with all the benefits of having had a
mom who found a way to support him financially without the high
cost of being away from him all day. Me, I'll have the benefit
of knowing that the bittersweet wind I'm putting beneath his
wings comes from my deepest desires for his complete success!

Article marketing is the latest buzzword for marketers
looking to promote their sites and products online. But
how do you measure the success of your article
marketing campaign?
It probably depends on what you expect your article to
achieve for you - better branding, more sales, or more
publicity.
One way to measure article performance is to check
how many times your article has been picked up and
reproduced on various sites.
To do that, just copy and paste the article title in quotes
into a search engine like Google, and you'll see how
many sites it's been reprinted on.
My article "How To Get To The Top Of The Marketing
Food Chain" shows 1061 links in Google.
That means Google has indexed 1061 sites on which
this article appears.
This gives me about 1061 quality links to each of the
sites I included in my resource box.
As you can see, this makes article marketing a very
powerful way of building quality links.
So how do you ensure that your article gets picked up
and reprinted by as many publishers as possible?
1. Pick A Topic That's Hot Or Always Fresh
For instance, my article on Neuromarketing got picked
up pretty quickly because it was a hot topic.
The problem with hot topics is that they also tend to cool
off quickly. So while they may get a lot of reprints over a
short time, they may get very few reprints once the craze
is over.
There are some articles that are slow starters but
eternally fresh, like the one I wrote here: "To Be A Champion, Become A Child"
(591 links in Google)
These are the ones that will give you reprints over a
longer period of time. I think in the long run, these are
more valuable.
2. Target A Large Audience
Another way to get a lot of coverage is write an article for
a large target audience or one that is very active online -
like bloggers.
This article gave me 164 links back, mostly from other
blogs, even some for which I had to use a translation
service :-)
This one shows 248 links back. 316 links for this one.
But again, it's the quality of links back that matters - not
the quantity.
Another large target audience is the health market. I get
a lot of links back from my health articles.
3. Craft A Catchy, Relevant Title
A catchy title ensures that your article gets the attention
of publishers - the first step to getting your article
published.
Follow the basic rules of copywriting to make your
article interesting and readable.
Publishers are more likely to pick up an article if its title
includes the keywords that they (and you) want to target.
Use your main keywords in your title, preferable in the
first half (like I did in the title of this article), to ensure
better rankings for those who reprint it.
4. Offer Publishers A Monetary Incentive
Give people an incentive to publish your article. I have
an affiliate program and I allow publishers to use their
affiliate link for my ezine in the resource box.
Allow publishers to earn by publishing your article and
they will gladly reprint it.
5. Write An Article Series
Break up a long article or report into a series of articles
like I did with my "Marketing With Blogs" series here.
Marketing With Blogs - Part 1, 2, 3 and 4
http://www.blog-maniac.com/marketing-with-blogs1.htm
http://www.blog-maniac.com/marketing-with-blogs2.htm
http://www.blog-maniac.com/marketing-with-blogs3.htm
http://www.blog-maniac.com/marketing-with-blogs4.htm
These gave me 5270 links back in all. As you can see, a
series of articles can be a very powerful link-building
technique.
6. Distribute Your Article Widely
Ensure that your article is distributed to the best and
most appropriate article directories and announcement
lists online.

directories and announcement lists
