How To Choose An Affiliate Programme Out Of So Many

By Radiance Johnson

Everyday we are bombarded with all kinds of affiliate programmes promising heaven and earth and claiming to be your ultimate recipe for financial success. There are several ingenious marketers who are daily releasing programmes that appear to be the answer you need to embark on your journey to financial freedom. Often times, you are rudely shocked to realize that the programme you have joined is far from what you had expected and that your financial investments have gone down the drain.

Hence the need to ask questions. Let me repeat that it is absolutely necessary for you to ASK a ton of questions before you join any affiliate programme as it will save you avoidable heartache later. Take time to conduct some modest research about the features of the affiliate programme you are considering as you are going to be devoting time and financial resources on it.

Some of these questions shall include whether it will cost you anything to join. However, it is given that this will be free as most lucrative affiliate programmes that abound today cost you nothing to join. Therefore do not consider any programme that requires you to make some payment prior to joining.

Next point to consider will be the hit- per- sale ratio. In other words how many hits to a banner or text link will you have to record to record a sale? This is important because it will assist you to work out the traffic level that is required to generate a given desired number of sales. And of course it has a direct bearing on the amount of commissions that you qualify to be paid by the merchant.

Similarly, you will do well to find out when your earned commission checks will be ready for collection and how often you will be paid in a month. How many sales will you have to record to be entitled for a commission check? What is the minimum amount required for the commission check to be issued? Anyway, you have to choose the option that you feel is the most suitable to you.

The next question for which you must find an answer before you decide on any affiliate programme is the accuracy of the tracking system. How are referrals from an affiliate's site
tracked? Will the tracking system remain long enough such that when ever a prospect that you refer decides to purchase several weeks later you will still be credited with that sale? You must
therefore find a programme that has a good tracking system that has this capacity.

Another important parameter that you should also consider is the group of affiliate statistics that are available to you from the merchant processing system. Such statistics should be detailed covering all relevant indices and available online real time 24/7. This will assist you in determining and monitoring your progress or lack thereof. Naturally, you will be very much
interested in the average daily hits, impressions, sales and the like as these data are important in deciding whether you should modify your ads, banners etc.

You can also, depending on the nature of the affiliate programme, find out whether you can also be paid for hits and impressions in addition to the sales recorded. This is particularly important where the programme you are associated with offers low sales - to- hit ratio.

A very important consideration in choosing your affiliate programme is the percentage of commission that is paid out to the affiliates per sale. Considering the fact that it costs virtually the same effort and financial resources to promote your affiliate programmes you must insist on reasonably adequate commission payments. 50% appears to be the dominant practice these days but anything higher will be appreciated.

Similarly, is the affiliate programme a one-tier or two-tier programme? A one-tier affiliate programme pays you only for the sale that you personally generate while the two-tier programme pays you for the business generated by your sponsored affiliate.

Infact, some programmes even pay what could be termed recruitment fees in order to inspire affiliates to exert themselves in getting more sign-ups.

It is equally important to try and know your merchant better. Determine if they are a solid company and their basic line of business and their products. Your research should also assist you to determine their relative standing in that particular niche and how easy it would be for you to successfully market their product and make some money in the process.

All said, these are only some of the basic questions you must find answers to before you jump into any particular affiliate programme. They are by no means exhaustive but are only supposed to provide with the basic guidance you need before making your choice out of the cacophony of claims and promises that abound on the internet. Whatever the case, however, you must be ready to work your business to success like many have been able to achieve and are financially happier for it.

My Secrets Of 'Forum Marketing'

By Willie Crawford

If you visit the popular "Internet Marketing Warriors" discussion forum, you'll notice that I have nearly 7500 posts! If you were to visit any of several dozen other online forums and discussion boards, you'd also discover thousands of my posts.

The reason that I have so many posts to online forums and discussion boards is that I have found them a very effective marketing tool. I use online forums to:

1) Allow potential customers and joint venture partners to actually get a feel for who I am.

2) Share my knowledge on topics that I understand, while at the same time generating links back to my sites.

3) Get quick answers to questions I have and quick feedback on ideas that I have.

4) Conduct market research - investigating the problems, concerns, needs, wants, and quirks of my markets.

5) Getting a feel for potential clients and joint venture partners.

6) Getting feedback on products and services that I'm considering purchasing, marketing or developing.

As you can see, forums can be very useful for many purposes. Since I am in business online, I think of much of what I do on forums as "marketing." In that regards, there are certain rules that I follow and recommend that you do too.

Let's look at some of my "secret" or often unspoken rules for forum marketing.

  1. Don't be anonymous. People buy from people that they know, like and trust. If they don't even know who you are, can't find a link to your sites, and have no clue who they're dealing with, they can't "know" you... let alone like and trust you. Use your real name in your profiles, include links to your websites, and include a photo. You don't need to tell them everything about yourself, but people do buy from their friends, and I'm certain that you know "who" your friends actually "are."
  2. Be courteous. For some reason, people are often ultra-rude, more aggressive, and just plain "nasty" in online interactions. The person that you're being mean to may be an ideal customer or joint venture partner. Why would you kill the relationship before it can even begin. Also beware that others observe your interactions and take permanent (subconscious notes).
  3. Consider the long-term consequences of your posts. When you make a comment, accusation, or attack someone on a public discussion forum, your words often become a "permanent" part of the search engines databases. So, even if you later apologize or point out that you were mistaken, when someone searches for a person or company's name in the search engines, they may encounter the inappropriate remark that you made. The title of that post is often the title that show in the search engine results! Many people will look no further after seeing your post "headlined" in the search engines!

There's really no easy, effective way to undo the damage once you've posted something to the database.

  4. Don't forget to leave ways for people to contact you. If the forum allows a signature file, use one. If the forum allows a profile, set one up. Use a username that tells who you are, and not something that you'll later want to change :-)
  5. Optimize your posts. Given that search engines DO index your posts, you want to make sure that your keywords are in the right places, such as the title of the posts (and maybe in hyper-linked text). Busy forums are frequently spidered by the search engines and are therefore an excellent way to get your pet projects indexed!
  6. Use images in your posts. Some forums allow you to post an image link underneath your post. Where that's allowed, you often want to include a relevant image. Images naturally draw the eye to where you want to focus your readers' attention... the link that you want them to click on.
  7. Participate in popular threads. Many forums give you the count of how many views and/or posts a given thread has. It's human nature to want to be "a part of" something popular. So people have a tendency to read threads that lots of others have read, and to post to threads that lots of others have posted to. Therefore, it follows that if you post to one of these threads you're more likely to be a part of the noticed conversations than if you post to one that ONLY you posted to or read.
  8. Don't try to be deceptive. Many forums allow the moderators or visitors to readily identify forum users through features such as IP tracking. That means that when you use multiple identities on a forum to make your topic appear "more popular," you are often only deluding yourself. People are alot smarter than some of us give them credit for, and they often quickly see through such ruses.
  9. You should acknowledge that if you can figure out a "sneaky" way to get an unfair advantage on a discussion forum, then those who've been a part of that community and using the same software for countless years have probably seen it all. So, your tricks are painfully obvious to them - even when they politely don't "call you on it." Instead the community will simply ignore you until you go away.

  10. Post often but watch how much time you spend on forums. Participating in the discussion at online forums has generated countless clients, subscribers, business partners, and friends. That has made it a very worthwhile investment for me. As long as you don't use participating in forums as a means of procrastinating, it can be very helpful for you too.

Using my secret forum marketing tactics, I have built a steady flow of business and traffic to my websites. It's also an excellent way to build some real relationships. Frankly, it's not even in my top 10 most effective methods of generating free website traffic. At the same time, I learned a lot of those other traffic generation techniques from online forums!

Enjoy your time at online discussion forums. It allows you to market while also facilitating our need for social interaction. It is also a great way to market, as long as you remember "my secrets of forum marketing."

An Internet Business Opportunity Can Lead To Trouble

By Naz Daud

An internet business sounds like the ideal way to make a fortune. We hear all the time about the internet millionaires who became wealthy virtually overnight. In reality many more people have lost a fortune than the few who have succeeded.

There are a lot of people in cyberspace who promise amazing wealth for a few hours of work a week. Some even claim that you can make money whilst you sleep! In reality over ninety percent of these ideas are scams with no hope of the investor ever making any serious money.

There are a few people who have more than one successful internet business but they have achieved this through hard work and learning through experience how to create their own highly targeted traffic.

This skill is an art form in itself and it can take several years to learn how to create pages that are search engine friendly and then make them appear on the first page for several lucrative terms. In the process they learnt all there is to know about link building, sponsored adverts and business directory listings.

One mistake that a lot of new businesses make on the internet is to rely way too much on SEO (search engine optimisation) experts. It is far better to learn these skills yourself even if you have to pay money to an expert to learn than to have little knowledge of the core foundation of your business.

Setting up a new web business is almost like going back to school. The first couple of years will (for the majority) never generate any significant income but the learning curve will be rapid for those who refuse to give up.

You will have to do some serious homework as you learn about this new medium. I have found that those who approach the web with passion and are prepared to read and investigate new ideas in a professional manner are much more likely to succeed.

You will definitely need a plan of action. This is basically a road map that will need to be constantly changed as real life experiences take over from figures and expectations on a chart.

The type of person who will most definitely fail is the one who expects rapid returns and jumps from one idea to another without sticking with one idea long enough to really understand how to make it work.

Persistence is absolutely essential especially if you are a newcomer to business. Each hurdle will be a major learning curve and will improve your confidence if you can deal with it.

The internet really is the goose that can lay the golden egg but like most new normal business start ups it's a three to five year project and does demand substantial capital and more importantly a high level of work & time commitment.

For those fortunate enough to make it can lead to a nice cushy lifestyle and the experience of starting one internet business successfully can open the path to having multiple successful internet businesses.

Provide Informative Free Articles To Increase Traffic & Return Visits To Your Website

By Robert P. Williams

People access the internet seeking free information and they expect that information to benefit them in some way. Useful free information can lead to purchases by your website visitors. It is in your best interest to provide such information.

Know that this type of informational marketing must be done with well-written, relevant, and optimized content articles.

When you provide free information to your customers you are providing a sought after service. Additionally, you can demonstrate that you are a well informed source on the topic matter at hand. When applied properly, your articles will place well in the search engines because your articles are considered relevant to search inquiries. Keeping your content fresh will get the continued attention of the search engines. It'll keep your customers coming back too.

Websites that offer fresh, constantly updated, relevant information optimized for key words usually rank high with the search engines. This is how the search engines are designed to work.

Consider that search engine spiders are constantly seeking new information. They index and catalog what they find adding anything new they discover as they collect data. They utilize the information on your site to determine how relevant it is to the search inquiries they serve which is reflected in your website's page rank.

In simple terms, the search engines will catalog and index the pages on your site for commonly mentioned words and phrases. Please note that these words and phrases are scrutinized according to percentages. Redundant keyword or phrase use is considered key word stuffing and results in a penalty. It's a kin to spam. The search engines like naturally occurring organic use of keywords and phrases.

When an inquiry is made for a search term, such as "quick and easy gourmet dinner recipes" for example, the engines will reference their database for websites containing that particular phrase and display what they consider to be relevant results.

A website that exclusively features "quick and easy gourmet meals", contains volumes of information on this topic and is constantly updated with fresh subject matter content gets the competing edge over other websites offering similar information. Remember, the content must be relevant and useful to your visitor and distinguishable to the search engines without over doing it.

Many website owners make the mistake of creating content for the spiders that are crawling the website for data. They do not take into consideration that most visitors will determine within 5 seconds whether or not the information presented is worth reading.

People are attracted to ease. Make Your website experience easy for them. Pages should download fast. Information should be easy to find. It should also be easy to comprehend in addition to being useful to them.

Keep you information fresh. Keep your paragraphs short. Avoid distracting graphics. Use bullets and make your information scanable. Help your customer find what they are looking for easily and quickly.

Remember the most valuable customer you have is your repeat customer. Give them a reason to keep coming back. Constantly added new information will do wonders for you and your customers. You want to avoid the "been there, done that, next" response on the part of your website visitors as well as the search engines.

You can also use reciprocal linking in your website content. Considering that most people surf the web going from one interesting link to another. You can get "lateral" traffic by creating a mutually beneficial linking arrangement with other topic related websites.

Let's say your website specializes in "quick and easy gourmet dinner recipes". Could you contact a webmaster who owns a website that specializes in "fast low calorie desert recipes" and arrange to make some of the content on each website refer to the other? In essence you would be serving your customers better and helping each other increase website visits.

As you can see, providing useful information to your website visitor is what the internet is really about. Utilize this principle to help convert more of your website visits into purchases and repeat visits from your customers and the search engines.

How To Earn An Online Income

By Mario Churchill

It is fairly well known that internet commerce has exploded in the last five years. There are many work at home opportunities for stay at home moms and college students to earn an online
income. However, not many web sites or books discuss ways that you can earn an online income on your own, without joining any programs or work at home opportunities that may or may not pan out. Here are some great ways to earn an online income working on your own.

  1. Earn an online income as a virtual assistant. Virtual assistants are basically administrative assistants that work from home instead of in an office. They provide services such as data entry, typing, word processing, and classified ad posting. Anyone with a good knowledge of computers, office software, and typing skills can easily earn online income as a virtual assistant.

  2. Earn an online income as a copy writer. Did you know that almost everything on the web that you read was written by someone other than the person who owns the web site? Copy writers are in high demand, and good copy writers earn some of the highest online income of any other internet commerce professional.

  3. Earn an online income as a web designer. This one can be a little trickier to get into, but is well worth the time and effort. There are many short term educational programs, both on and off of the internet, that allow you to learn about web design in nine months to a year. Once you are finished with your schooling, you can easily earn online income as a web designer. Be warned, however, that the need for web site designers is waning with the advent of numerous software and online site builders.

  4. Earn an online income as a graphic designer. Most small businesses do not have an in house advertising department. In addition, most advertising agencies charge insane amounts of money for the creation of brochures and other marketing materials. If you have great designing skills, creativity, and an expert knowledge of desktop publishing software, you can earn a great online income by creating brochures, advertisements, web sites, banner ads, and all manner of advertising material for small businesses.

  5. Earn an online income through retail. You can sell just about anything online. Go to garage sales, estate sales, and thrift stores to see what you can find. Often you can sell knickknacks, books, and other items online. You can also use the products of your hobbies such as quilting, sewing, or crafts to earn on online income through your own e-commerce store. Online stores are easy to set up and run, and generate tons of online income for people across the globe.

Five Tips To Ensure Your Online Degree Is Taken Seriously

By Bill Wilson

Do you want your employer, or prospective employer, to take your new distance learning degree or certificate program seriously? Of course you do - why else would you have invested
the time to earn this advanced degree or special certification? It is important for your employer to take your distance learning degree, or certificate program, seriously and appreciate the value of all your hard work and the new skills and knowledge you have obtained.

Advancing your career through continuing education, whether online or at a traditional university, is a serious matter. You should expect the value of your online education degree or
certification to be recognized by your present, or prospective, employer as long as they believe that your online school is credible. So, firstly, you can help yourself by following these two steps:

  1. Make sure your distance learning school is fully accredited by a regional accrediting agency. This adds credibility and integrity to your educational accomplishments and real value to your degree or certificate.
  2. Make sure that your online degree or certification is germane to the field that you are working or pursuing employment. A degree in Education will most likely not help you advance your career if you are an accountant.

If you are still concerned that your boss, or future employer, may be skeptical about the value of a degree earned through online courses, there are additional steps that you can take to put their fears to rest. These tips are not intended to deceive, but to paint your distance learning degree in the best possible light.

These tips are relatively straight forward and should be considered before selecting your online college or school.

  • As mentioned above, one of the most important steps to take when you choose your distance learning program and school is to ensure that they are accredited by the appropriate regional agency.
  • If possible, try to find online courses at a university that also has an active "brick and mortar" campus. More and more traditional colleges and universities are offering both in-class and online courses as they start to identify the benefits of online education for both school and student.
  • Try to select a school that does not promote "online" or "distance learning" in their school name. Today, most schools offering online classes do not follow this practice, but there are still a few that do - avoid these institutions if this is a concern.
  • Most credible distance learning schools are reachable during normal business hours. Make sure that your selected school has a "live" person answering their phones in case a prospective employer calls to verify your degree or request a copy of your school transcripts.
  • Request a sample of the school's transcripts that would be forwarded to an employer. Make sure that the format and headings appear professional and do not contain references to online or distance learning classes or degrees.

Following these simple steps will give your distance learning degree or certificate program the best opportunity to be viewed by those few cynical employers with the same respect as a traditional school's degree. You worked hard for your online degree and are proud of it. So shouldn't you take the time to make sure it is given the consideration it deserves?

Distance Learning MBA Basics

By Chonticha Marijne

If you've ever tried to earn a degree, no matter where or how, you know what it takes to reach your goals. If you've already achieved an Associate or Bachelor's degree, why not take your
education, and your earning clout, to another level by earning your Master's degree? What? You don't have the time with your job and family commitments to attend a traditional campus any more? No worries! Earn a distance learning MBA degree from the comfort of your own home or office.

Master of Business Administration degrees will open doors that you thought might be permanently closed. Today, there's no reason for anyone not to be able to attain the education dreams they've always aspired to, with the wealth of distance learning colleges out there. More state university systems are also adding online or distance learning curriculum to their rosters,
because they understand the needs of today's students and adults who would like to pursue further education goals.

Because traditional campus learning requires a major portion of any person's time, and one must often perform feats of magic to blend school time with work, job and family responsibilities, the concept of distance learning has taken education to a new level in the 21st century. If you have a computer, you can attend online classes from anywhere in the world. No longer are you limited to state or community college systems that are within driving distance of your front door. Taking advantage of a distance learning college or university to pursue your Master of Business Administration can get your career on the fast track. Work is available within just about every job sector market when it comes to degrees in business administration.

You don't have to work in a bank or other financial institution to put a MBA degree to good use. Every industry in the world needs gifted and educated men and women in their ranks to take care of the finances, legalities and day to day running practices of their companies. The health industry is one of the largest growing fields around the world these days and is expected to
hire millions before the year 2014. No matter which sector you enter, there are positions open and waiting for business administration graduates in health care management, billing, recording, and administrative. The same goes for the law enforcement field, within both private and governmental sectors.

Distance learning colleges and universities or extension programs should be fully accredited, so make sure they are before you fill out applications. You may also want to check into student financing and student support services before you decide. A distance learning MBA is one of the degrees that can be used in the widest variety of job sectors. Distance learning opportunities offer the courses you need, fully accredited and ready for you to start. Finding the college or university that offers the MBA course you are looking for is your decision. Completing coursework can be done as quickly as you want, or you may take your time. That's the beauty of distance learning. It's your decision when to sit down and study, not the other way around.

Finding Sales Solutions Through Email Marketing Campaigns

By James Brown

Most business owners have heard about email marketing campaigns and how effective they have been in bringing customers to websites that they never knew existed. Finding sales solutions though email marketing campaigns, however, is hard for business owners that do not know how to manage mailing lists or use this information to their best advantage.

Since these business owners know how to send an email out, they are further along in their endeavor to build their business from the ground up than they realize. They have one tool that is used for email marketing campaigns and only need to find a solution to help them get the information organized. Once they do this, they will be able to tell the world about their new business and get customers on site to buy.

Some business owners turn to businesses that specialize in managing email lists and creating ads, brochures and using images to promote a new business website. These people not only specialize in finding solutions through email marketing campaigns, but they also have specialties in hosting businesses on the web and creating ecommerce checkout systems that will process their orders and allow the business owner to get paid for the products that are sold everyday.

Some of these businesses will also create newsletters for the new business. The email marketing ideas are limitless and the email marketing system is very beneficial to any new business that is trying to establish an online presence. New business owners have more control over their sales and the discounts that they offer, and some of those discounts could be what brings new customers to their new site.

The only thing that the new business owner must be able to add to these email marketing solutions is the email addresses of prospective clients. The other solutions will be accomplished by the email marketing company. Of course, if the new business owner is computer savvy, they could purchase an email marketing program that will do most of the work and the business owner can receive all the profits.

Some business owners might take advantage of both options just to learn how things are done in the email marketing world. They might not have a tight grasp on HTML coding and might like to see how a email marketing ad is created using the special codes. Once they have that coding learned, the new business owner might feel confident enough to create ads and newsletters.

Some solutions in business can be free of charges if people learn from the things that happen in their business. Business owners can learn to manage email marketing lists by using software to update old addresses with new ones or remove some that belong to customers who say they are no longer interested in the types of products that are being sold. Most email marketing solutions will take care of all of the loose ends in a new business and leave the owner with time to find new products and enjoy being an entrepreneur.

Transitioning Your Business Online

By George Meszaros

The Internet is providing your brick-and-mortar business an opportunity to serve your customers online. Having a web presence doesn't mean that you will abandon your brick-and-mortar business, rather one becomes the extension of the other. Making that transition from a brick-and-mortar business to an online business can be a challenging task. Having an online presence is going to compliment your existing business, but it is going to require a real commitment from you and your employees.

Whether or not your brick-and-mortar business becomes a click-and-order business, your initial goal must be to integrate your online presence into your existing business infrastructure.
Wal-Mart, Staples, and many other successful brick-and-mortar businesses have made the transition. Moving online doesn't mean abandoning your brick-and-mortar presence, rather it is to compliment it.

As you develop your online presence you are all of a sudden in the convenience business. But convenience is meaningless if your customers can't trust you. Trust and convenience doesn't add up to anything unless your customers can find your site online. And, if you are too expensive all the trust in the world will not help you to close the sale.

Planning

Proper planning is everything! To improve your chances for succeeding online, you must have goals. As you map out your online strategy set measurable objectives. It's not enough to hire a web developer to build you a site and hope for the best. Be clear about what the transition, or expansion, to the Internet means to your business. Make conscious decisions about expanding business into cyberspace, and consider its impact on your sales, marketing, customer service, and all other business processes.

Bricks-and-Clicks

Bricks-and-clicks is a business model that unites offline (bricks) and online (clicks) presences. Sometimes, referred to as click-and-mortar or clicks-and-bricks. This model has been traditionally implemented by brick-and-mortar businesses such as Wal-Mart and Blockbuster. Bricks-and-clicks is a popular system because it offers the best of both worlds, online convenience without the shipping charges. With this system customers can order online and pick up at a local store at a later date. For example, you may have an accounting firm that creates a website to enable clients to upload payroll data for processing.

Improved Search Engine Ranking With Modernization Of Marketing Strategies

By Markus Skupeika

Maneuvering the business process and ensuring the right proportions of profit earning are the fundamentals of all types of the business, whether it is small business or the large corporate. Internet marketing is no exception. Online businesses employ a number of techniques and strategies to increase the positioning of the website in the improve Search Engine rank.

Search Engine Optimization is also referred as SEO is the process of achieving the best organic ranking with the help of some specified tools in the Search Engine result pages like Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista and many more search engines and thus to enhance the web traffic for a website. Search Engine is rather a complex and on going process which normally takes bit time to show off its result of driving the traffic for the website.

As there are enormous numbers of techniques to optimizing the website, web masters use only the uphold techniques for the Search Engine Optimization Management. One of the primary things that business profession takes into account to summarize the tools for achieving the great search engine listing is the keyword which the web spiders use for extracting the related information. Many search engines index a page based on key word phrases and oftentimes add value if the key word appears within a certain concentration range. The caveat here is that many search engines will lower the web page ranking if the keyword appears too many times since this is alleged as an attempt to trick the search engine. Keyword search engine optimization uses not only keyword concentration but also keyword placement. Many search engines place higher emphasis on key word phrases that are placed in web page titles and HTML header tags.

Another method of SEO is to increase the number of links to the website being optimized. Most Internet Marketing companies design their algorithms with the supposition that a page that is highly allied to is more likely to offer quality content then one that has no links to it. Many web masters had taken advantage of this assumption by using link exchange programs to increase the number of links to their site. For this reason, many search engines now bring down two way links in favor of one way links.

Meta tags are one answer for the higher Search Engine rankings. The page title and the actual content are more important for the search engine ranking than the Meta tags. Visitors are also driven by the organic Directory submission services. People often mistake with the Directory submission and Search Engine Optimization being the same. Directories have the exaggerated part in increasing the ranking in the search engine rankings by sending a huge number of traffic.

How To Build A Better Website Without Building A Website

By Richard D S Hill

The most important thing to think about, when first thinking about any website, is the user. Like so much marketing websites are, unfortunately, too often developed `inside out' (company focused) rather than `outside in' (customer focused).

All website users have their own reasons and objectives for visiting a site. No matter how targeted any website has to communicate with a wide range of individual users.

To be successful therefore, every site has to give each and every user a thorough but simple presentation of the site's content so that the site achieves your objectives e.g. registrations, leads, sales.

To do this successfully users want:

Simple navigation

Navigation that is clear and consistent.

Probably the worst issue is `lost visitors' - those who are in a maze and don't know where they are in the site.

The site should always allow users to easily return to the home page and preferably get to any page with one click.

Studies have shown that users want to find things fast and this means that they prefer menus with intuitive ranking and organizing and multiple choices to many layers of simplified menus. The menu links should be placed in a consistent position on every page.

Clarity

Users do not appreciate an over-designed site.

A website should be consistent and predictable. For maximum clarity, your site design should be built on a consistent pattern of modular units that all share the same basic layout, graphics etc.

Designing websites that meet their objectives

Everything above is pretty simple, but how do you ensure that you can achieve it?

The answer is website architecture - an approach to the design and content that brings together not just design and hosting but all aspects of function, design, technical solutions and, most importantly, usability.

The distinction may seem academic but imagine trying to publish a magazine using just graphic design and printing whilst ignoring content and editing. It just would not work yet that's what too many people still try to do.

Website architecture

Defining a website using web architecture requires:

- Site maps
- Flow charts
- Wireframes
- Storyboards
- Templates
- Style guide
- Prototypes

This planning saves you (the client) money. The better the site map, flow chart, wireframe, storyboard, templates, style guide and prototype the more time and money you save because it gives the designer who has to do the graphics and the developer who has to do the programming a blueprint.

We are constantly amazed that people who wouldn't think about building a house, car, ship or whatever will still build a website without an architectural plan.

The benefits include:

- Meeting business goals
- Improved usability
- Reducing unnecessary features
- Faster delivery

Site maps

Many people are familiar with site maps on web sites which are generally a cluster of links.

An architectural site map is more of a visual model (blueprint) of the pages of a web site.

The representation helps everyone to understand what the site is about and the links required as well as the different page templates that will be needed.

Flow charts

A flowchart is another pictorial or visual representation to help visualize the content and find flaws in the process from say merchandize selection to final payment.

It's a pictorial summary that shows with symbols and words the steps, sequence, and relationship of the various operations involved and how they are linked so that the flow of visitors and information through the site is optimized.

Wireframes

Wireframes take their name from the skeletal wire structures that underlie a sculpture. Without this foundation, there is no support for the fleshing-out that creates the finished piece.

Wireframes are a basic visual guide to suggest the layout and placement of fundamental design elements on any page. A wireframe shows every click through possibility on your site. It's a "text only" model to allow for the development of variations before any expensive graphic design and programming but one that also helps to maintain design consistency throughout the site.

Creating wireframes allows everyone at the client and developer to see the site and whether it's `right' or needs changes without expensive programming. The goal of a wireframe is to ensure your visitors' needs will be met in the website. If you meet their needs you will meet your objectives.

To create a wireframe requires dialogue. You and your developers talk to translate your business successfully into a website. Nobody knows your business better than you and your
developers should listen to ensure the resulting wireframe accurately represents business. You, however, must answer the questions; questions such as:

- What does a visitor do at this point?
- Where can a visitor go from here?

and ignore questions about what your visitor sees at this point. Sounds easy, but!

Storyboards

Storyboards were first used by Walt Disney to produce cartoons. A storyboard is a "comic" produced to help everyone visualize the scenes and find potential problems before they occur. When creating a film a storyboard provides a visual layout of events as they are to be seen through the camera. In the case of a website, it is the layout and sequence in which the user or viewer sees the content or information.

However, the wireframe provides the outline for your storyboard. Developers and designers don't need to work in a vacuum - the wireframe guides every design, information architecture, navigation, usability and content consideration. Wireframes define "what is there" while the storyboards define "how it looks".

Templates and style guide

Templates are standard layouts containing basic details of a page type that separates the business (follow the $) logic from the presentation (graphics etc) logic so that there can be maximum flexibility in presentation while disrupting the underlying business infrastructure as little as possible.

Style guides document the design requirements for a site. They define font classes and other design conventions (line spacing, font sizes, underlining, bullet types etc.) to be followed in the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) used to provide a library of styles that are used in the various page types in a web site.

Prototypes

A prototype is working model that is not yet finished. It demonstrates the major technical, design, and content features of the site.

A prototype does not have the same testing and documentation as the final product, but allows client and developers to make sure, once again, that the final product works in the way that is wanted and meets the business objectives.

Now you have built your virtual site it's a lot quicker, easier and cheaper to build the real one.

A Few Search Engine Optimization Techniques

By Gabriel Adams

You completed a web site for your business about three months ago, but you are still not seeing very many people visiting your web site. You do a little research and find that your web site is buried about ten pages deep on all of the major search engines. It seems that you have created a very nice web site, but it is not optimized for search engines, so your page rank is very low. Search engine optimization has become a very large field for many different consultants all over the internet. However the techniques needed to optimize your web site for search engines are not very hard to implement on your web site all by yourself. Here are a few of the most important things that you can do for search engine optimization:

Use keywords throughout your web site. - Many people do a good job putting a good description and group of keywords in their meta tags, but they do not use these same keywords throughout the rest of their web site. You must continue to use your keywords throughout the content on the rest of your web site if you would like to get high search engine rankings.

Create a sitemap - Many search engines will try to index your site's pages by following links to all of the different pages. However if a search engine is unable to follow a link, then a page might not get included in the search engine's results. To make sure all of your pages get indexed, make sure that you have a text-based sitemap that includes all of the major pages of your web site.

Use Flash sparingly - Flash is a very neat technology and it has its place on the web. However you do not want to overuse Flash, because a search engine will not be able to read the text that is embedded in the Flash elements, which could hurt your ranking if you have keywords in that area.

Get inbound links - One of the best things that you can do for search engine optimization is to get inbound links to your web site. If you are able to get high quality web sites that relate to your business to link to your web site, then your search engine ranking is sure to climb.

The Truth About A Home Based Business

By Scott Oliver

Nowadays, a growing number of people are finding that they wish to get out of the rat race and leave behind the daily grind of a regular 9 to 5 job. So, many of them begin their own home based business.

However, a significant number jump into starting a home based business without doing sufficient research into what they really want to do and what it will take to make their home based business a success.

One vital point for people to understand is that even though they now have a home-based business, it is still a business and should be treated as such. Many are inclined to treat their home based business as a hobby and do not really give it the time, attention and energy it needs to grow and prosper.

All too often people fall into the trap of trying something for a short period and then jumping to something else. If you find something you like, stick to it.

A very common misconception that many people have on starting a home business, is that they will find they have a lot of free time. Often, the goals people aim for in their home-based business is that they are able to spend more time with their family and that there will be a better balance between work and life.

There can be a conflict in these goals especially when first beginning a home-based business. In the first few years, you may find that your home business is very time consuming, and you may find that you now have less free time than you did when you were working a regular 9 to 5 job. However, you cannot expect your business to grow and prosper if you do not spend a lot of time with it in the beginning.

You must realize that any home-based business you start is bound to have its ups and downs. You will realize that there are not loads of people beating your door down to acquire your products or services. In order to make your home business known to others, you are going to have to utilize some savvy marketing skills as well as effort.

If you look at the successful home business person, you will find that he or she has probably spent about 95% of the time in the promotion of their home-based business.

On the other hand, those who have been unsuccessful have probably spent less time promoting their business and more time doing busy work such as surfing the Internet, checking the stapler, checking e-mail several times a day, dusting the home office, going to the post office and many other little details. All of these are important, it is true, but this should not be the center of your focus in the beginning.

In conclusion, you know that you must treat your home-based business as a real business and not just as a hobby that you can devote attention to only when you feel like it. Developing a home-based business will take lots of time and energy in the beginning. In the end, it will all be worthwhile because you will pride yourself in having built a successful home business with incredible long term potential.

4 Keys To Get Website Traffic For Your MLM Business

By Jon Roussel

If you have been marketing your MLM business online for any while, you must probably realize the importance of linking your website to others of similar content to get quality website traffic.

This strategy for generating website traffic can help the search engines, particularly Google to determine the importance of your website and therefore assign the proper page rank to you. The higher the page rank, the more website traffic you will get.

It used to be that the more links, the better, leading to higher website traffic.

When Google changed their algorithms a few years ago, however, the sheer number of links because less important for website traffic than the quality and relevance.

Many network marketers have one or more replicated affiliate sites they market. Getting quality website traffic that will convert to sign ups and sales is a common challenge in this case.

There are many tools available for automatically building links to your website. Link exchange directories are a good tool to get more website traffic.

Here are four methods to drive website traffic to your affiliate site:

Post Articles

Publishing and posting articles is one of the most effective ways to create organic website traffic. This gives you an advantage as it gets incoming links to your website. Well written articles bring more website traffic for a long time because they stay on the internet for a long time.

Optimize Your Website

Search engines will examine both the internal and external profile of your website to designate a rank to a web page. Internal profile of a website includes usage of meta tags, heading tags, keywords, targeted content, and internal linking of website. External profile of your website defines the websites that are linking to your website.

Replicated MLM websites are typically optimized for the most frequently searched keyword phrases specific to a certain target market.

Anchor Text

Anchor Text refers to the clickable text of a hyperlink. Anchor Text can have a big impact on target website traffic as well as the search engine rankings.

Anchor Text lets the search engines know the content of the web page it links to. The right Anchor Text improves your website's search engine ranking.

A good way to set up anchor text for an affiliate site is to purchase a redirect url and then put the anchor text using the correct keyword in that url.

Tools

Website tools can make your website user friendly, getting you more website traffic. New scripts and innovative schemes for the visitor help you get more inward links. This in turn builds more website traffic. You can offer free e-books, or introduce new exciting sections relevant to your website. This will make your website enticing for the visitors.

Getting more website traffic for your MLM business is a critical activity that can make or break your online marketing. Learning and consistently using a few simple but powerful methods will drive that website traffic that will convert to sign ups and sales.

The Importance Of Business Marketing

By Mario Churchill

If considering starting a new business, people should definitely be informed about the importance of business marketing. An individual can invent the most magnificent product on the market but without effective business marketing the product sales may never reach their potential. A new business should begin marketing their product immediately at start-up and continue to do so year round. If aspiring to make the business successful, whether it's a seasonal business or not, the owner should market their product all year long.

Business marketing, if carried out in the right way, is a huge sales tool for any business, new or old. It's is essential to prepare a marketing plan. To be successful, the plan needs to be well thought out and prepared before putting into motion. First of all, before sharing their product with the world, the businessperson needs to know exactly what they are selling. Not only do they need to know their product inside and out, they also should know how to present it to the public as a product they might be interested in. Marketing a home appliance for example, the consumer is interested in what the appliance can do for them, how buying this item will benefit them. Effective business marketing insures the consumer will recognize the benefits of a product from the way it is advertised.

In preparing a business marketing plan the owner should be looking for their targeted audience. Every product is made for someone or something. In thinking about marketing a product, the individual should be interested in finding methods of attracting the targeted audience using different vehicles of advertising such as magazines, newspapers, radio, television, etc. For example if the product was a new lady's perfume, smart business marketing would advertise this product in women's magazines, in TV commercials on a women's network, etc.

Business marketing is extremely crucial if hoping to be successful in any business. Competition is a factor in every market no matter which kind of business people choose to go into. To insure a product is recognized over a similar product, the individual must be creative and use methods that will convince consumers their product is best for them. Competitive markets are difficult and require plenty of work and effective business marketing if anticipating positive results. A product without proper advertisement will definitely fall by the wayside, going unnoticed and unsold. Taking the necessary time to prepare a solid business marketing plan is important and just might be the difference in a thriving business and going bankrupt.

Is It Possible To Earn An Honest Income On The Internet?

By Cynthia Brandolini

Each day, hundreds or even thousands of people start searching for a way to earn some extra money from home. From the moment when they first type "how to make money from home" into a search engine, they are bombarded with an incredible volume of information, business opportunities, shady deals, and outright scams. How does one sift through all the hype and shrill sales pitches to find a legitimate online business? Does an honest income program even exist?

Everywhere you turn, you see statistics that claim 95% or more of those who try to start an Internet business will fail. Why? Why does such a large percentage never see success? One possible reason is that they are so overwhelmed with all the claims and information that they just give up. Maybe they try one or two programs, lose money, or even worse, are seriously scammed, so they decide everything online is a ripoff. Their very limited experience leads them to believe that the only people making money online are borderline criminals. This, of course, is not true, and one needs to consider that the sheer number of programs online makes it impossible to judge them all based on one or two.

Another factor which contributes to the high failure rate would have to be inaccurate expectations. Too many people start looking for a means to earn some money online while expecting to suddenly earn thousands of dollars in their first week or month. They have somehow come to believe that instant Internet riches are there for the taking, with no requirements of any investment or effort on their part. Then when they are not rich in a week, they just give up.

Some people seem to think that just signing up as a free affiliate should guarantee them a massive income. They seem to expect the company producing the product or service to give them sales. There is a lack of understanding about how to advertise online, or how to drive traffic to a website, or even that any effort is required to do so. Money must come from somewhere; in order to earn something, money must change hands at some point - someone must buy something from someone else.

Where does this leave us? Anyone who would like to earn money from home through an Internet business needs to understand the key word there is "business." The means to working for yourself is to start and build your own business. No business ever builds itself. There will be time and effort required. And the effort required which most people fail to recognize is the need to educate yourself about the Internet and how to market a business online. This educational process will be different for each person who attempts it. It is difficult to know who to trust and what information is reliable without spending some time (and money) on testing.

One of the most important things to educate yourself about is what is legal and what is not. There are so many websites thrown up which will promise you riches overnight, but which are in reality a scam to make the originator some quick cash. It is mandatory that one spends some time researching, from independent sources, what laws apply to whatever business is being considered.

There are definitely many different ways to earn an honest income online. If you can find a successful entrepreneur, who is focused on legitimate income opportunities, and who can prove their success, you would do well to listen to their advice. Anyone who is trying to build an online business needs to be patient, as building any business takes time, but also to be very careful of the minefield to be found on the Internet.

What Does Obesity And Working From Home Have In Common?

By Yoshi Kundagawa

Working from home is an absolutely wonderful and convenient experience and I'd recommend it to anyone any day. I have been working from home for a number of years and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Suits and ties and alarm clocks tend to be some of the only things in life I really fear. Spending my days crunching numbers in an office isn't my idea of fun. I left the office to work from home when I found it was more profitable and infinitely more comfortable to work in my Bermudas with a soft drink precariously perched on the edge of the desk and a bag of chips on the file cabinet.

Therein lays the problem.

It is easy to be comfortable at home. Things which might not be tolerated in an office are fine when that office is your den or your spare room. Eating while you work so you can keep working becomes a way of life for those of us who have a great deal of work to accomplish from home. It's not necessary to take a breather because we don't have to do the hour long lunch, so we
work through it. Hunger pangs set in and we tend to grab the first thing that we see in the cabinet that will sustain us until a real meal.

The first thing we see probably isn't the best thing to be eating. Normally it is something rich in calories and something that finds its way to our inordinately accommodating hips nearly immediately. In my case, I got a wake up call. One morning shortly after realizing I had gained about twenty pounds in the past five years, I found myself feeling somewhat less than chipper. I had a chest pain that felt sizable. Coming from a family who has some heart history already, I wasn't about to wait and see what was up. I called someone and went to the doctor to find out what the problem was. He smiled as he finished the exam and told me I had indigestion. I laughed feeling a little embarrassed. But when I truly thought about it, it wasn't all that amusing. The fact that I even thought I was having heart problems told me that I knew I wasn't doing the right things for my weight or my health.

Working from home is a pleasure and it's a curse. Those of us who do work from home need to make sure that it stays a pleasure and isn't the reason for our excessive weight gain and other accompanying health problems.

After my heart scare, I decided that some new rules need to be in order for my office.

The soft drink stayed but it was regulated to lunch time or breaks. I rose from work at specific times and made certain that I climbed a few steps and walked during those breaks. I took a regular lunch break and in fact, I began to eat a regular lunch. The pounds began to fall back off.

In short, I began to treat my job, like a job. To take regular breaks to exercise both my body and my mind, to get out of my computer chair and visit with my family, which was my reason for taking the
