Q and A: When is a bridge NOT a bridge?
Kalena's Answer:
When it's completely under water!
Yep, Lavender's Bridge here in Bellingen, the rural Australian town where I live, has been completely submerged by flood waters, as you can see by this photo.
That white thing in the middle distance is the Bridge sign. As for the bridge itself, it cannot be seen at all! The Bellinger River has swelled up to about 10 times it's normal size and everyone on this side of the bridge is cut off from the township right now. Not that it matters, because the entire township is also cut off from all other areas - all roads in and out are closed due to massive flooding.
Helicopters are passing overhead as I type this, no doubt dropping supplies or ferrying passengers who are trapped by the rising floodwaters. Don't worry about me though, I've got enough coffee and wine supplies to see me through any crisis.
