Q and A: Have you been able to avoid the Google sandbox?

Dear Kalena...

This is a great site. I notice you started blogging in May.

Can I ask you, have you been able to avoid the Google sandbox? I've got four blogs (all on Google's Blogger as you do, and all of them are in the sandbox, though a couple are doing very well at Yahoo and MSN search. (I started these two blogs in December and February). I'm wondering how many more months I should expect to be in the sandbox for?

Still Sandboxed

Kalena's Answer:

Dear Still Sandboxed

This might seem strange, but I truly don't rely on search engine rankings to provide traffic to this blog. I get a lot of my traffic from word-of-mouth, forums and links from other sites. Before you asked, I've never even thought about whether this blog was sandboxed, but I did notice that the main Search Engine College site it is part of was sandboxed for a few months last year upon launch.

I've just checked for a few logical search phrases and this blog is ranking nicely so I can safely say no sand here! But of course, if it had been launched at the same time as the main site, I'm sure it would have been a different story. Are your blogs on newly launched or revamped sites? If so, that would probably explain it. As for how long you have to wait, I don't have the answer to that one. Forum gossip suggests anywhere from 3 to 6 months. But don't waste the time standing still - work on building high quality content and links so you're ready for the influx of traffic once Google raises the gate.
