Q and A: Has the minimum bid for AdWords changed?

Since AdWords integrated their new "Keyword Status" system this week, it seems like they've given advertisers the ability to change their minimum bids lower than the previously allowed 0.05 minimum. I noticed this when I was editing keywords in a particular AdGroup and the system allowed me to enter a 0.02 bid when it was previously 0.05. Is this a temporary error or do you think the minimum bid for AdWords now changed?

No, you're not seeing things. It appears that AdWords now gives the advertiser the ability to lower their minimum bids for certain keywords below the previously allowed threshold. I was alerted to this in a forum yesterday and have verified it in my own account. It seems to be part of the checks and balances Google is implementing across the whole system.
While this particular change is seen as an improvement by advertisers, others are critical of the new Keyword Status system because it seems to require advertisers to substantially increase their bid amounts in order to have their keywords changed from inactive to active.

The new system killed my Adwords campaigns. I've always been one to buy a lot of cheap keywords for 5 cents. For every keyword where I was able to reduce my minimum bid (to maybe 3-4 cents), there's a keyword that has a 50 cents to $1 minimum now.
This has also put a strain on the amount of impressions available to Google's Content network. I now have thousands of Webpages that display zero or one Adsense ads, where last week they displayed as many as six or more text ads.
So, I've lost most of my keywords on Adwords and I'm making 2/3 on Adsense of what I was making last week. This sucks!
So you're saying the lack of ads displaying in AdSense is due to all the keywords turned inactive by the new AdWords system?
