Q and A: Does Google's recent patent mean we will be penalized for link building?

I found this article about the recent Google patent (you’ve probably already read a version of it).

Anyway, I think the information on linking is interesting, especially since getting a lot of links at once may flag you as a spammer. I have been building a lot of links lately so are we in any danger of being branded as spammers and penalized by Google?

Thanks for the link but I don't see anything new in there (apart from the domain registration issue which I think is probably exaggerated). As long as you are building your links quite slowly, by hand and with high quality sites that relate to your industry, you shouldn't be concerned.

I believe the patent most likely refers to automatic link generation in large numbers, or from low quality unrelated websites like FFA directories. I wouldn't worry about it!
